Thinking about a new computer

Well since my vid card is dying, dead or just hates me, I've decided to buy some new computer components

This is what I have on my list:

XFX Geforce 9600 gt 512mb XXX edition DDR3 2.0ghz PCIe 2.0
THERMALTAKE W0104RU tough 650w ATX 12v v2.2 / eps 12v ul & fcc power supply
AMD Athlon X2 dual-core 6400+ 3.2ghz w/1mb X 2 cache 90nm
CORSAIR TWIN2X4096-6400C5 4gb kit (2gb x 2) pc26400 800mhz
ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe amd 790fx chipset ATX form factor 4xPCI-E(x16)

All this for $780

And I need a new OS, cause my XP disc is tied to this one (thx MS, what would i do with out you)
So should I get XP Pro, XP Pro64bit or Vista Ultimate (160$)

maybe: DVD/CD Combo drive (does everything) SATA for about $30

Leave any comments and suggestions, I will check them out

Budget is 800$ w/o OS
 
Well a couple quick questions before I post my list... what about a Case and Hard Drive(s)? Are you just going to re-use old ones?
 
yeah, imma reuse those, i mean i have a case made out of 1mm thick rolled steel (i can sit on it, its that strong)

i would just go with vista. its a change but your gonna need it anyway in the future right?

your gonna love your ram and gpu too!
 
so duality suggested a Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz 1066 or 1333mhz fsb and an asus intel mobo instead of amd for the same price.
so i might go with intel instead for the cpu
 
Do not go with 64 bit system because there's a lot of issues with software and hardware drivers

[/quote1208518244]Actually that isn't true anymore,64Bit OS's these days are just as good as their 32Bit counterparts and have a lot less problems with software than before plus he'll want to go 64Bit because he'll need it to make use of his 4GB of ram.

Thats a pretty darn good computer for the money you paid for it,congrats.
 
I bought a Vista Ultimate 64 two weeks ago and installed on my comp. My wireless adapter did not work with it because Netgear didn't support vista fully on all their models.... Also about the ram, surely you can use all 4 Gb but then you'll end up using more ram than XP because of animation background and other utility...
8 out 10 of my games does not support Vista or 64 bit so I had to go back to XP and play them....
 
i went for linux mandriva and bought the powerpack which lets use emulate windows and play all games for windows

iv had no problems except for using dual monitors havent quite gotten that to work yet but i dual boot with windows as well to use the second monitor

i would definitely get a 64bit os so you can use the full capabilities of your processor
 
Most of my Japanese games do not support 64 bit such as School Days, Sengoku Rance, Utawareromono and Spirits of Eternity 2.
American games would be Red Alerts 2, Cossack Back to War, Army Men, Black and White 2, Empire Earth 2, Godfather.
 
some games dont run on 64 bit OS's but as long as all source games do idc then

I personally would recommend you get Vista. Better to think ahead than be left in the dust.
