I'm looking to upgrade my monitor. Currently I'm using a hp pavilion mx704. I'm looking at getting the ASUS VH236H. Any thoughts?

Do you have a price limit? And what kind of GPU are you using?

ASUS makes very good monitors (ASUS makes very good everything, actually). I got a 24" one for the holidays (don't know the model number off the top of my head), and it's excellent. Nice and bright, good contrast, and the HDMI is awesome for using a ROKU or something.

Besides, it has 1200 reviews and 5 eggs on Newegg, so obviously a lot of other people like it.

For $150, your limited to around 22" (which is how much I paid for my 22" lcd monitor 5 years ago). However, this is the best I could find (for now): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116442

Also, Newegg also has weekend deals, so if you cant watch to catch a monitor on sale that you really want, then sign up for their newsletter. Ive managed to come away with some rather sweet deals in the past. If you decide to buy some software based item from Newegg, they will send you an email with some coupons for some hardware upgrades. Hope this helps.

For $150 price range, Asus would be a solid candidate.
