You have the link to Toms Hardware right here--go ahead and look at the kind of power consumption a 670 SLI setup uses. Also do yourself a favor and look at the top-ranking power supplies (I don't happen to see Cooler Master up there. Funny that!). Wattage has nothing to do with the quality of a unit because in reality, some units can get several hundred watts higher than their promised capacity IF it's a quality unit.

I'd rather have a Seasonic X650 that can get 800-900+ watts powered safely than a Cooler Master that has horrible internals and amperage that mean it barely gets 600-700 of the promised 1000 watts.
 
Yeah, I don't understand why you have to try to talk down to people nocturnal, especially when I agree completely with what runo has said. And just so you know, tomshardware forums are not the end all/be all of computer pros. There are many places I would go to before tomshardware forums for expert opinions. If you had said jonnyguru forums for psu expertise, I might have a little more faith in what you've said. You may be under the misconception that newer, more powerful graphics cards require more power. This is not the case as they are actually more efficient due to the smaller manufacturing size.

Well...I didn't realize providing right answers over wrong was considered "talking down". I didn't come here to have an internet fued. I came here to provide help to someone asking for answers, I apologize if you took it that way.

There is a difference between what it says in the book and how it operates in reality, just throwing that out there. I've tested high end cards and hardware. Oh and it may run but burn out the psu faster than it would a larger one. But anyway, relax guys, noones out to get you on the interwebz :) happy gaming

Great post friend. I am glad you have tested hardware. Let me tell you about hardware. When an actual expert recommends a quality unit, they don't start with cooler master. They also don't mean high wattage = high quality. They also will not tell you to get a 1000w psu to power 2 670s when they require a 750w at most.
 
I didn't recomend any of those. If you look back, it was brought up browsing gamer rigs that I have worked on and have worked well. My first post is what my reply to the question was.

I wouldn't recommend a no name 600w psu...so I agree with you then...what da problem is? Chill out bra

Here is your first post, and here is where you mention your "high end" cooler master for 2 670s. You also mention a 690 when the ops budget is $400. It is great that a 690 is the best there is right now, but that doesn't mean people can afford it.

Now bra, if you thought my post was "hostile" and yours was just informative, please tell me you are kidding.

And finally, I have said his rosewill (not a no name as they have started to put out some pretty good units of late) is fine for the single 670 which he is considering and can actually afford. No reason to get another one if what he has will run it and if he might not even get a second 670. And if he decides to in the future, he can get a new psu then.
 
Read after that post. If you can remember. I said high wattage cooler master, just threw it out there as a no name brand. What I meant was high end 600w or no name high wattage(there cheap). Its advice.

Only can find out if you actually do it right. After his new setup, let's see how she runs, all the best!.

Just remember all smart people think they are smarter than the other ;)
 
You refer me back to your first post. I quote your first post where you make the comment. Then you tell me to read your second post. Now, what you appear to be saying in your latest post is you think a 1000w cooler master is garbage but many gaming rigs use them so it is a good option over a quality 650w unit? I don't think I can keep up with your inconsistencies. Let's just agree that I am right.

Smart people are smart people for a reason ;)
 
Are you trying to make things up little huckle? All I said was get a 600/650 watt brand name or 1000w no name, meaning they are the same price range. It is no name but not garbage, not the best, a lot of power if u can get away for cheap. Now go bark up another tree and stop trying to instigate an interwebz fight...goin nowhere...jeez, I'm here to offer my personal opinions. I will not let anyone down.

little huckle? nocturnal, there is no reason to get angry. no one is out to get you friend. 1000w high quality cooler master garbage is the worse advice I have heard in awhile. 600w brand name is a waste of money. what he has now is good enough for a single 670. if he wants to sli, a 750w brand name will leave a little more breathing room.

I apologize. nocturnal is correct. get a gtx 690 on your $400 budget. i should have thought of this.
 
Guys when it comes to computers we all have our own opinions. Lets remember that when offering ideas to one another. It appears some are taking the friendly advice and others are turning this into a flame war. If we don't have any positive feedback, skip posting.
