Legend of Korra Thread

This would otherwise disprove that theory:

From the wiki:
Amon was born on a small farm to a family of non-benders; nonetheless, they were extorted by a firebender. When Amon's father eventually confronted their oppressor, the firebender killed his family and severely deformed Amon's face, forcing him to "hide behind a mask" ever since.

I honestly doubt that either Zuko or Azula fit that description.

I support this, but I don't doubt the possibility of it actually being true.

So far I'm really liking Tenzin. He's a pretty cool guy.

Lin's got an interesting character design. Really like the metalbending though.

On another note, does lava belong to earthbenders or firebenders? (This just occurred to me today.)

Lavabending is a combination of both fire and earth bending, it is only possible by avatars. There was a small part in The Last Airbender which showed the most recent fire avatar lavabending.

Ah ok thanks for clearing that up.

Also, when did that happen? You mean, the movie or the series?

I honestly doubt that either Zuko or Azula fit that description.

Actually, the creators of TLA have mentioned in interviews and the like that Azula eventually becomes sane again. Although it's not confirmed, if you judge by what's onscreen. (Obviously.)

And Lin by far is my favorite character. I mean, she's not only Spiderman/Wolverine/Iron Man, but a hardboiled cop. Like dang, that's awesome.

Azula still wouldn't be the type to extort Amon's family even if she were sane.

Lin's pretty awesome.

I freaking loved The last airbender and I've loved the first four episodes of Korra, but unfortunately I haven't caught the last 5. The use of 1920's new york and steam punk elements is pretty cool.

This show man

holy crap that was a great ending to that episode

Oh man, that was a great episode. It's tied with episode 6 for me. Although, what happened at the end...I'm going to be sad for a couple of days.

All the more reason for a loss of bending being reversible. I mean, Lin is Toph's daughter, the greatest earthbender ever, and she's one of the greatest benders out there. Surely she won't loose it forever--especially what she lost it for.

Dont think this should count as a spoiler, but in the end of A:LA, Aang became an energybender as well and thats what you need to take someones bending away. And since the avatar can learn pretty much any bending (at least that's what I assume) Korra will probably be able to learn it and be able to give benders their powers back.

And that's pretty much what I'm going to assume is the finale. Final fight with Amon (With Korra's Avatar State, of course), restores bending by whatever means, happily ever after, maybe a cliffy of the next season's antagonist. I'm seriously hoping it's not going to be Asami, I think she would make a terrible antagonist. I mean, right now her only sole purpose is providing material for that silly love triangle Bryke is trying to pull.

And then there's always the case where bending is not restored, but I doubt that would happen for a show that's geared for a younger audience in the first place.

God that was the best episode ever. I wholeheartedly agree with you that it equals E6. Those fight scenes are amazing, especially when coupled with that equally awesome soundtrack.

That ending....

I really think Lin's lost it forever. She lost it for a noble cause though, protecting the last airbenders on the planet.

It's a possibility, but we have yet to see since energybending is such a vague concept.

Regarding the cliffhanger at the ending..

I seriously thought that was Zuko at the end. Then I realized that he would've been really old. Why they would use the same voice actor escapes me. Then they said General Iroh and I thought, "Wow that's amazing. He must be Zuko's son."

Its been pretty much confirmed that he only had a daughter which is currently Fire Lord/Whatever the female term is and that he himself is traveling the world. Pretty sure this is from the little Republic City game on Nick. It's not head-cannon, but it does have some details.

He only looks like he's in his twenties, so best we assume he's Zukos' grandson.

I keep re-watching yesterdays episode, it was so amazing.

there is a post on Tumblr going around that says "If Lin Beifong is also your hero, reblog this."

Its got over 12,000 reblogs. <3 I legit teared up at the end of yesterdays episode. ;(

Yep you're right

From the wiki: Iroh is a general and leader of the United Forces. He is the grandson of the now-retired Fire Lord, Zuko.

So I found this:

I don't think Amon is energybending. Note, that when he takes a person's bending away, he presses the center of their forehead, the location of the body's 6th chakra, the Light chakra. Remember, this chakra deals with insight and is blocked by illusion. What Amon is doing is implanting the suggestion that the person can no longer bend. They now subconsciously believe they cannot, and therefore lose the ability. They still can use it, but the mental block is preventing it from manifesting.

I almost want this to happen, and I almost don't. People deserve consequences, and as much as I want Lin, yadda yadda whoever else lost their bending to get it back, it wouldn't seem fulfilling for their characters.

Anyways, there was a picture somebody made to go along with this theory, but I don't have it and it's getting too late to dig around for it. I support this, and I would put my money on this being the case--because it seems really likely, and Bryke doesn't have a lot of lee-way for a darker ending. (What I assume.)

Anyways, I stand on my point that Amon is his own character, his "Energybending" is a load of crap, and he probably is going to get his butt kicked from Korra's Avatar State tomorrow.

At this point, I'm pretty nervous/excited for the finale, and I want to enjoy it without any conflicting opinions influencing mine. [Goodbye, internet for a few days.]

Hmm that makes sense.

But considering that it's a show aimed at a younger audience, this theory is extremely likely.

Exactly. Like I said, I'm sitting here nervous as crap to know what happens, and I just gotta roll with whatever goes down. Rewatching the whole series to get the best of it as we speak.

Totally called the energybending thing

I was happy with the ending. I would avoid the spoilers below me if you haven't seen it yet.

Like I mentioned in previous posts, I wouldn't find it fulfilling for the characters to get their bending back, but when Lin earthbended again, I gave in and settled for that ending.

Although Korra regaining her bending in like less than five minutes was a bit of an asspull in my opinion.

And I'm sad that it's over now and we gotta wait at least like some six months before season 2. Oh well ;_;
