Have a 2000 Toyota Solara (150k miles) that's been giving me a load of trouble lately. Rewind 4 days:
Get back home from College. Car is working fine. 10 minute later I need to run to the store. Car wont start. So I walk instead.

Get back home, Try starting car. This time, The Ignition and steering are Frozen. Cant even turn to ACC. Unhook the battery and charged it over the weekend to let the security thing reset (Car has an Anti-theft thing which locks the steering wheel. removing the battery for a couple hours resets it).

Today, hooked the battery to the car and the steering and Ignition is still frozen. Looked up my problem and was told I might have Bad Tumblers in the ignition. Only the dealer is authorized to make that fix apparently. Called them up, asked for a quote "That'll run you about 700-800 Dollars, depending on the year and model of your car".

So I got the serial and part name and googled it. $90 for the EXACT same part I have now (except new), with an average install time of 20 minutes....
Then there's the Towing fee of $250 to get my car there to be repaired.

Nope.ACL

Very Frustrating because I'm in college and I need the car to get there, as I have no other reliable ride. I do NOT have the money now to fix it (or in the foreseeable future), nor do I know anyone I could burrow from.

Anyone know anything I can do besides trying to scrounge up almost $1k that I dont have, or maybe a second opinion even? =\

Insurance only covers accident related damage for those who dont/didnt know.
