Speaker System

Been looking for a new speaker system for awhile now. Right now im using a 40 dollar 2.1 insignia set that i bought like 3 years ago. the quality of sound isn't that great.

I dont know what to look for in speakers, i just want something that sounds great and has a good woofer.

budget preferably is under 100.

Best sound for the money is going to be some cheap bookshelf speakers, a small class-T amplifier, and a lower end Asus Xonar sound card:

Sound quality won't be able to be matched by some super small woofer that come with most computer speakers. No subwoofer, but you could always add one in later, if you would even need one. Most computer speakers also have lots of boomy bass as well which people often equate to great speakers, especially for gaming. For music though, not quite what you want.

This is also a bundle with the same bookshelf speakers and a slightly better amplifier. Slightly more than the lepai and bookshelves, but you save about $15 vs buying the bookshelves and dayton T amp separately.

how much of a difference does a sound card make? right now im just using my mobo. (obviously)

Even one of these cheap ones can have a vast improvement over onboard. If you want the best bang for your buck, the setup I have suggested will destroy some powered teeny computer satellites.

Make sure you have the room though as these bookshelves are big which gives them the superior sound.

save your money and buy a KRK studio monitor setup. that's why I use. LOL! complete overkill, but I like to jam, really really LOUD!

Err, not sure that a set of speakers over 3 times the budget is going to be the best option. Studio monitors are a great choice, but they are going to be over your limit. I have some myself, specifically the M-Audio BX5A Deluxe. Was able to find them on sale for $140. They also make a cheaper set called the AV40. You can get these for about $120 on amazon. Nice thing is they are powered so you do not need an amplifier. They are also a little smaller as well. But of course, they cost a bit more too. And again, a sound card would be recommended to get the most out of them as well. I still think the t amp plus bookshelves is a great option with unbeatable sound at the price.
