So I'm assuming since we are in the DOD division, that most of you are as into World War Two as I am. I minored in it in college as well as a minor in art history and my major is commercial photography.

Anyways! I'd like to see if any of you have followed through with the soundtracks to the films? I'm very much into classical music and I'm pretty torn between which is my favorite because Michael Kamen is an absolutely fantastic composer and created some truly emotional music for BoB. Zanelli, Zimmer and Neely all composed outstanding pieces for the entirety of The Pacific. I do love that The Pacific's soundtrack has twice as many tracks and is very emotionally attached to specific scenes in the series. Both films were absolutely amazing through videography, cinematography, how close the film followed the true events (band of brothers following easy company and The Pacific following much of Eugene Sledge's "With the Old Breed"). So bravo to Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. I've had the Band of Brothers Box DVD set since it came out in 2002 (which I remember always watching and wanting to play old Day of Defeat 1.3 after) and just recently decided it was worth it to buy The Pacific and I'm extremely pleased and quite mad I didn't take interest in it sooner. :)

Very close in my mind. Im actually reading With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa a book written by Eugene Sledge, one of the characters followed in The Pacific. Very different landscapes both portrayed very well.
 
Well I'm partial to Band of Brothers because my grandpa fought in Europe. And also because I took an interest in it first....haven't seen all of the Pacific yet, but it is just as well done in my mind....
 
Both, by far are amazing. Soundtrack wise I really don't know. Looks like I might have to make another couple long nights to figure this one out. It's possible that there's a tie.
 
i voted for band of brothers because it sounds awesome, and i like band of brothers better than the pacific :)
 
Band of Brothers. I thought it followed the story line behind the action of DDay to the death of Hitler in a more historical manor. The Pacific i thought was good series but i feel as if it was cut short and it did not example a good Pearl harbor to the atomic bomb dropping as it needed to fill in more of the time frame like Band of Brothers did.

Both series though are epic and i still enjoy watching both of them when they are on.
 
The Pacific had a sick soundtrack.

Aside from the question, however, I think the Pacific was much more authentic in its portrayal. While the BoB was a very good series and I do still enjoy it, it felt as though they made the 101st out to be the division that single handily won the war for the Allies in Europe. Just my 2cents.
 
BoB had a deeper soundtrack IMO. I think both series' were fantastic, but I also think that BoB made you feel more connected because of how tight-knit the group was.

It also helps that Lipton was my Gpa's co-worker and good friend.
 
The European theatre will always be my first choice when it comes to books, photographs, movies, etc because I've always taken a deep interest in the Wehrmacht and their tactics (the Germans had the most elite and well trained at the time along with the best weaponry.) My interest is far from anything to do with Nazism. I don't like anything the Nazis did or anything they stood for. My interest falls into the normal drafted soldiers, the Wehrmacht. Not all Germans at that time were radicals.

Both series are fantastic and I really enjoy watching both though this thread was intended to have a focus on the actual music of the movies ;):)

Yeah, I think it's pretty cool. He told my grandpa a lot of the things that happened in the series long before they came out. My dad actually mowed his lawn for a number of years when they were neighbors. He was going to come up and visit us the year that he died. Recently my grandparents were going through their old home movies and converting them to digital and they came across one where Lipton was having Thanksgiving dinner with them in Switzerland in the 70's. He had snow-white hair even back then. It would've been awesome to meet him in person!
