i'm going on a trip to dc in in coming weeks, and i wanted some form of entertainment for the ride up there. i thought, 'why not a 3ds?' i found one on craigslist for $100, and i'm seriously considering getting one.

can you guys tell me what they are like as a game system? basically, is it worth the money? what games should i get for it? i plan on getting ocarina of time 3d and either super mario 3d land or mario kart.

Nintendo wasnt been making any thing good for a while only reason i have a Dsi is
for pokemon but Im sure you can find the best game of 2011 so you have a
idea of games

I have been waiting and waiting to buy a 3DS. It is completely dependent on Capcom announcing that Monster Hunter 3G or 4 will be released in the US. That's the deciding factor for me. Still waiting sadly. :(

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite games. I'm sure it's great on the 3DS especially if you've never played it before. The Star Fox remake seems to look pretty decent too. I have always been a big fan of the Mario Kart series so I would be willing to bet that game is quality.

Fire Emblem: Awakening seems to be a pretty hot title if you like Turn-Based strategy with a rock-paper-scissors format.

Also the Resident Evil game got a ton of buzz when it came out, though honestly I don't remember if that buzz was good or bad.

We have a friendly member on the board named ThatNintendoDude and I know he has a 3DS. I am hoping he will see this thread and be able to offer you some sound advice.

Or, hopefully someone else that actually has a 3DS will chime in. Let us know if you decide to go through with it!

(*sigh*, stupid Capcom)

Both of my sons have one & they love it.They don't use the 3d on it though,it gives them a headache after a while. You can play regular ds games with it too which is a bonus, since there's a bunch of good ds games out there.

Its good it can give some people headaches but i lived infront a screen for all my life so i have no affect. I would recommend Mario kart if you have wifi or someone to versus its alot of fun multiplayer but single player is really cool to you can customize your car. If not go with legend of zelda ocarina of times especially if you haven't tried it yet , or Super mario 3d land .

The 3DS kept me occupied for a good month or so, and I haven't really messed with it for awhile after. It might just be me, but I got bored with it after the initial coolness factor wore off. I'm sure I'll get back into it when the new Paper Mario comes out and Luigi's Mansion 2.

Starfox is always a good choice, same with LoZ. I'd say as far as non remakes, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are musts. There just isn't a lot of new games that are good out for it yet unfortunately. I personally would wait, though $100 for it isn't bad. Just keep in mind that you'd still have to shell out for some games.

My friend has a 3DS and I tried to play on it, didn't quite like it but everybody's opinion is different

I like my 3DS a lot.
But I got one before the price drop so that's partly in due to my loads of "free" games.
Still, Ocarina of Time 3D, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, and Kid Icarus: Uprising are all great games.

yeah, the original price is what turned me away originally. but after the price drop, i was more welcoming of it.

anyway, i got the time off from work, so i'm going on my trip; i only need to get in touch with the person now to see about the 3ds.

Ding ding, here I am. Better late than never!

There's no denying that the 3DS was not worth having for a while. However, with recent stand out releases (Mario Kart, 3D Land, Zelda, Resident Evil, MGS, etc.) and upcoming popular titles (Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion, Kingdom Hearts), now is the perfect time to jump into the 3DS world.

Does the Craigslist article say anything about when the system was purchased? Because if it was before a set date (before the price drop, not sure exactly...), then it is most likely eligible for 10-20 free downloadable games from Nintendo. Classics, like the original Mario Bros and some GBA standouts like Metroid Fusion and Zelda: Minish Cap.

Plus, the eShop is really starting to come into its own. A wide collection of downloadable titles are available now, with more on the way. Plus, Nintendo has decided to start doing weekly sales on one stand out game. For example, this weekend, VVVVVV in 3D is $5 compared to the normal $10.

If you can snag a 3DS for only $100, I say full speed ahead. Let me know if you have any more questions/concerns!
