So Ramadan is coming up in July! For those of you who don't know what it is, it's the month where Muslims celebrate the time that we believe that the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was giving us the scriptures of the Qur'an. When you see Muslims fasting while the sun is out, they would be celebrating Ramadan. However, there is a lot more that goes on then just eating at night. So who here in eGO is fasting this year? (Both Muslims AND non-Muslims, I've seen some people fast with their friends/co-workers for support.)

I never done fasting probley wouldnt be able to because im not very tough but yeah enjoy
your month holiday

Days are going to be longer and longer each year for Ramadan. I remember when it used to be in winter but now it's going to be hard, because of the heat and the long days. But I will still be fasting same as every year.

Not fasting. Not Muslim. But I had a friend back in college who invited me over for a family evening meal during Ramadan. What a feast. I know the holiday is more than eating at night, but I'm kinda jealous. Enjoy!

Yeah I can't believe it's here already. It does seem to be coming up earlier and earlier.

Islam is fascinating. I went to a Christian college but the 400 level course I took on Islam was one of my favorites (brought in an Imam and everything, it was great). There is so much that people from all walks of life can learn from it.

I won't be fasting myself but I have a huge level of respect for Muslims and wish you peace during this time of reflection and celebration!

Enjoy your holiday. I hope ALL Muslims around the world celebrate it in a peaceful manner as well.

It does according to the solar calendar which the majority of people use. Muslims and Jew follow a lunar calendar (each to a different one I believe). So basically through the years, one may have celebrated Ramadan for all 365 (or 6) days of the year.

Yup. Judaism follow a lunar calender, however they have added in leap days and months to compensate for the month advancement of the holidays.

"The ninth month of the Muslim year, during which strict fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset."

yeah no, i'm gonna have to sit out on this one and have a piece of toast every day this occurs once an hour from sunrise to sunset. kudos to you though
