Welcome to a step by step guide to admining as an =(e)=:
Abusive players
Scenario: You’re playing on one of our wonderful eGO servers, having a blast and getting a few kills as well. Suddenly, the server erupts in chaos. F this, f that, you suck, go kill yourself, etc. You quickly peak at the current players on the server and notice there are no admins on the server. You think to yourself, "Well, I'm not an admin and there are no admins present so there's nothing to do but take the abuse."
Wrong. Nothing is further from the truth!
The first step is to warn the offender. Perhaps the player isn’t aware of the server’s rules. A simple, “Player X, Please watch your language on eGO servers. Thanks” will usually help. Sometimes, however, the player continues his abusive behavior.
If the player continues his abuse, the best thing to do is to alert an admin. Admins have powers to silence or remove the player from the server. When contacting the admin, make sure to brief the admin with vital information, such as the name/team of the abusive player, that you’ve already alerted the player to the server rules, and any other pertinent information.
There are a few ways to contact an admin:
1) The fastest way to contact an admin would be to message them via steam. As a new =(e)=, it is recommended that you add as many =(eG)=/=(eGO)= members as you can to your friends list. Besides for allowing quick access to admins, adding and talking to eGO members is a great way to make friends and meet the community. I recommend utilizing the friends list tag options. I’ve organized my friends list so that there is a separate group for =(eG)=’s, =(eGO)=’s, and eGO council members which allows me to find whoever I am looking for extremely quickly. You can quickly find a whole bunch of eGO members by scrolling through our steam group (Edge Gamers Organization: CSS Division (CS:S)).
2) If none of the admins on your friends list are available, the next best place to look for an admin is in Ventrilo. There are almost always admins in the counter-strike channels. Feel free to pop into the channels and ask if there are any admins around who can help out for a minute. Additionally, I highly recommend hanging out in Ventrilo on a regular basis as it is a fantastic way to meet members of our wonderful community.
3) You hop onto Ventrilo and the counter-strike rooms are empty! If the player is still being abusive, go to http://playerlist.gamingrobot.net/ and you will be able to quickly look at the current players on eGO servers. If you see an admin in one of the servers, you can hop to the server by typing !servers into chat on any eGO server. After joining the server, send the admin a message in admin chat (type @ followed by your message in team chat) explaining the situation.
4) Type a message into the forum shoutbox that there is a trouble maker on server x and you need help.
On the off chance that you go through all of the 4 steps and don’t find any admins or the player leaves the server before an admin can join the server, you should utilize our Ban Request forums.
A ban request should look like this:
To get the steam id, type status into console and a list of all the current players and their steam id will appear. If the player disconnects before you have a chance to type status, his steam id should appear next to his disconnect message.
To save all of the chat records and steam id, you can type condump into console and a copy of your console will be saved as a text document, which you can then copy/paste the chat into the ban request. Condumps are saved to your /Steam/SteamApps/"accountnamehere"/counter-strike source/cstrike/ folder.
Additionally, everything said on every eGO CS:S server (with the exception of our Jail server) is recorded and can be reviewed on the gameme website (http://edgegamers.gameme.com/players/css). You can either search the player’s name and click chat history or click on the server and click chat history for the entire server. Additionally, you can find the offender’s steam id by searching the players name on the eGO gameme page.
If you need help in filling out your first ban request, feel free to message an admin or talk to one in Ventrilo and they will gladly walk you through the process.
Abusive Admin:
Scenario: You notice that an admin is being abusive, either verbally or you feel he is abusing his admin powers.
Please create a thread in the forum’s dropbox section. Only Advisors and above have access to the dropbox.
The proper format for a neighborhood watch complaint:
If you have a problem with an advisor, take it up with the division leader (beta). If you have a problem with a division leader, you can message division council (iamevilbear), etc. Keep following the chain of command (you can view the chain of command here: http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/cmps_index.php?pageid=leadership).
Hackers:
There are two types of hackers: blatant and ones attempting to hide the hacks.
If you notice someone is using a blatant spin/aim/speed hack, you should immediately find an admin to help contain the situation.
The other type of hackers are the ones who try to hide their hacks, whether they are toggling an aimbotter, using a no spread/recoil hack, or are using wall hacks. The most important thing is to not call them out in game. When hackers are called out they often times toggle off their hacks, making it much harder to catch and ban the hackers. The best thing to do is to message an admin and brief the admin about your suspicions.
If you notice that the hacker toggles off his hacks once an admin joins the server and then toggles them back on once the admin leaves, you still have options.
You can record a video (called a demo) of the hacker, which you can then submit for review.
Demo's record everything that you see in game. To record someone first join spectator. Then, open console. In console, type "record <demoname>" and hit enter. I use the person I am demoing’s name as the file so I can easily find it.
Make sure that you are spectating the suspected hacker in first person view (you can quickly scroll to the correct person by using the ctrl view menu).
Demos should be at least 10 minutes of the suspected hacker in action. The more footage you have, the better.
Once you have completed the demo type “stop” into the console.
Demos are saved to the same locations as condumps: /Steam/SteamApps/"accountnamehere"/counter-strike source/cstrike/ folder.
To review a demo, you can press Shift + F2 to open a demo viewer. You can then review the demo and see if there is anything suspicious and worthy of submission. While reviewing the demo, type into console: “sv_cheats 1” and “r_drawothermodels 2” and you will be able to view the demo with wireframes enabled, allowing you to review suspected wall hackers.
