Server Rankings

We supported Argentan before, but I guess it was just another Anzio.

They were all other Anzios. Anzio was just different. It wasn't another Flash, which was overused by every server, or Colmar or Jagd. Not many people see Anzio during multi-map rotations, especially when maps are voted on. New players may just be hesitant about it. I'm not entirely positive that switching maps would improve the position the server is in.

Just need more late night bodies in there instead of waiting on queue to get into Ava.

When played correctly anzio is a very good diverse map. It comes down to teamwork, end of story less skilled players working together will topple a more talented team any day. The map can be capped out quickly, this leads to exodus after many rounds of blitz from either side. I think to make it work teamwork has to be encouraged (matching cap for cap) and the blitz and focus on the all encompassing win not so much.

could just make it a standard map rotation server so it plays all of the original map pack in 30-40 minute blocks, something like the eGO variety server

Why would we have a rotation map that plays all the maps we have 24/7 maps for already? Kind of seems redundant to me.....:confused1:

Well you really didn't think it through then. A lot of players enjoy variety without having to switch between servers or having to wait extended periods of time outside full servers to play (which happens quite a lot). Also eGO only supports servers for 4 of the six standard maps and only supports one bomb defense map (Charlie: the worst of all the bomb defense maps).

If we have a server that is failing in the rankings hard it would seem prudent to make changes or use it as an opportunity to test some new things or retry old plans. Even if you've run something before; you haven't run it for ages and people do desire things they haven't had for a while. Running a rotating map server would give you a chance to see which of the maps on it are the most popular (who leaves and joins at the start and end of certain maps) and would engender a more fast-paced gameplay due to the length of rounds. Simply switching the map to Flash or Argentan may be enough to keep the server ranking up for the next few months.

You could even run a server with rotating maps and have a community vote on the map that eventually stays on the server (by community I mean the people who play the server not just eGO members).

Now I appreciate everyone shooting down every idea that's brought up, but what do you have to lose?

This post needs more updates of server rankings so people can see this is about populating the servers we have, showing that we're putting the time in to populate them, THEN making improvements. We're all here for the same reason, to have fun. Thanks for all the hard work each and every one of you put in, let's just make it a little better and get the servers moving in the other direction of rankings.

I think some forget the point of our servers is so that the people currently in eGO and our regular pubs can enjoy playing on the maps they want, in a safe and fun eGO environment. Not about getting it to the highest rank.

I think it's unlikely we will find a combination of maps that is going to change the rank of that server, unless we change it to something that we already have, which is no fun and pointless for everyone. I think Anzio was chosen because at the time people wanted to play on it, even if it's just full a couple of hours a day, and I think the same stands true now.

A couple of hours a day of fun on Anzio is a much better option than a 24/7 full server of maps
we already have and play on already. We should be serving ourselves with this, not the gametracker scoreboard.

I agree with Matz.
Chili I think ava dropped due to the server being down for a short time period last week, I have good faith it will rise up again.

Strand is currently ranked 33rd in the world wide standings, so it is safe to say that the majority don't think it's the worst of all bomb defense maps. Argentan and Jagd have been tried with failing results. Both were implemented and used when Kalt closed up the last time.

Firstly, Anzio isn't falling hard, its still in the top 100 in the world, it has just now started to develop its own pubber base without us having to come in and jumpstart it every day. Attention as of late has been put into Kalt, soon though however attention will be brought back to Anzio. I have been running the Rangers now for atleast two years now, I am well aware of the rankings climb and what works and does not work when jump starting a server. Do I have all the answers....no, are there other ways of doing it, I am sure. But I am not going to sacrifice all that work of building the base on just some shot in the dark idea. Myself and all the other members who have jump started these servers have worked their tails off and have had to over come not only population issues, but server upgrades and IP changeovers, and have continued to move them up in the rankings.

You could even run a server with rotating maps and have a community vote on the map that eventually stays on the server (by community I mean the people who play the server not just eGO members).

Lots of people have brought this idea up and it is something we may POSSIBLY consider in the future, however currently we want to make sure we have done everything possible to sustain the servers we have first. To help speed this process up I would highly recommend talking with pubbers in game more and recruiting. Both keeps players in our servers.

Now I appreciate everyone shooting down every idea that's brought up, but what do you have to lose?

No one is shooting any ideas down, but I have been part of this division now for almost 5 years. Our division has always prided itself on listening to what the members want, however we can't just blindly try everyone's idea and hope it works out. We would not last long as a division operating this way.

Lets keep this thread on topic, focus on the server rankings, anyone else has any questions on the maps we use please discuss it with us via the drop box or a PM.

Thats exactly the problem, the server was down for 24 hours, I am sure it will be back up to number 1 in a couple days.

You are correct Matz, to some extent, getting our servers up in the ranks however does help keep people coming back. And it also gives us a measure of whether we have the player base to have enough servers to facilitate the players.

Rankings are not a priority, but it does give people drive to achieve something and be proud of the work and effort we put into our servers.
