My replacement pc sucks >_>

I recently received a dc7600 from my dad while I'm replacing parts for my pc. This thing sounds like its one step away from the grave. I was wondering if I could use some old parts to keep it going a little longer, and so I can actually play some games (which I haven't done for too long :facewall:) Here's the list:

-4gb DDR2-667 memory
-Some off-brand 500w psu
-8800gt

Think these will do? I can't find the specs for this particular model, there seems to be 3 versions under the same model name. I wish HP had a better naming scheme:confused:.
 
Depends on the games you had in mind. The 8800GT and RAM would be useful, but not the best for say BF3. But it would be good for CoD4, Minecraft, WoW, CS, and TF2.

Anyways, when it comes to replacement parts, its never a good idea to keep the psu that it came with. God only knows how much its been used. Its always the best option just to upgrade that. Also you need to tell us what parts you have that are available to use from your old machine. If the components that you posted are from the machine that your dad gave ya, you need to figure out if you will keep the machine's config (memory-wise) or if you have any available memory from your old machine. Also what cpu will you be using?

You need to take all of this into consideration. You need to post all the info from your old machine, not to mention as much info about the machine that your dad gave you as possible. Is the machine your dad gave ya even able to boot? If it is, then run dxdiag & allow it to pull up all the important stats that you need in order to figure out what you need to upgrade.

Well I don't intend on playing BF3 anytime soon, I figure this P4 would explode if I tried to launch it :P

I've been to that site before, but it doesn't help too much, since each model can have different parts inside them. Basically they're just selling you the motherboard inside of a case.

Those parts are from my previous pc, that I no longer used after upgrading them. Also I'm currently using this dc7600 to post, it gets loud with every tab opening and closing.

However, under further inspection, I know for sure the RAM will work. Also this pc has a dual core P4 in it, can't really tell though lol. By the way, the off-brand psu I used powered the 8800gt before, but I was using a 95w amd cpu. The only time it didn't work was with a 125w cpu. Gonna attempt to make this work, I need to play some games lol.

I don't have minecraft :(. Quick update before I go to have late night dinner, I got the ram in, worked for a few minutes before a freeze. Turns out one of the sticks are bad, so I put one of the originals back in. As I'm typing this I realized that stick I put back in is of a different speed than the other ones....i'm so dumb, why did I do that? Well whatever it works I guess. I'll get put fitting the 8800gt/psu later :)
