Security Software

Hey guys, working on piecing together what my new system is going to look like and I was wondering if you in the community had any thoughts on antivirus and malware protection and Firewalls.

I've been thinking Microsoft security essentials, with malwarebytes for deep scanning, and zone alarm as my firewall. What do you guys use or what do you suggest?

I use AVG FREE and CCLEANER both free programs , I never have any problems , If somone does not have the money this works great. Plus piroform (who makes CCLEANER) has a couple other cool programs for free SPECCY is a simple program for seeing what you have inside your computer and DEFRAGGLER is a cool replacement for windows defragmenter.

I use BitDefender, MalwareBytes, and Comodo as my firewall. In the year and a half to two years I've used them, I've had maybe.. 2 viruses.

I prefer Comodo as when I game I can put it in "Game Mode" so it won't mess with my game, ran into that problem with other firewalls.

Other than that, I don't really use the other little tools.

Microsoft Security Essentials is really good, so is Malware Bytes. CCleaner is quite a handy tool for getting rid of useless data. Speccy will show your computer specs. AVG is memory hog so I wouldent recommend it. (Not trying to be mean but last time I used it, it was hogging!) I use Auslogics Disk Defragger. Cant say anything about the firewalls :/.

If you want web security you could get Firefox with Adblock Plus and NoScript.

NoScript can become tedious but if you really care about security its worth it.

I second piriform's defraggler and ccleaner. Both are great for fixing problems, ect. The dragging really can speed up your system too!

Yeah, I'll ad a third to those programs.

However, from AVG to Comodo, to the Microsoft stuff, you have to really temper your web browsing on the free stuff.

Honestly, I'd hit up the money and plug in Nortons. It's not that much of a memory hog anymore and it's fairly intuitive. My dad even runs it on his non-server computers.

I'm still a norton hater, not sure what it is but I bought it maybe a year ago... and it was still a resource hog. It slowed my pc down considerably, but it could have been updated as of recent.

MS Security Essentials and Advanced SystemCare Pro.
What ever the people above me said either A) utilizes too many system resources and has too many annoying popups or features no one needs
B) had a good ol' price attached to it (AVG Free sucks anyways)
C) doesn't do much, ie CCleaner is by far the most overrated program, and ASCP does thrice more and has a turbo mode.

Of course, i'd say Tuneup Utilities, but that is saved for a different discussion


P.S. - I haven't got a single virus in what... 6 years? And i visit all kinds of sites, and i've used AVAST, AVG, and MSSE, they all have the same security.

For me it would be MSE, CCleaner, Malwarebytes and if you're talking about a desktop directly connected to the router/modem, use zone Alarm firewall, if you're using a laptop/connecting through WiFi, Windows Firewall is good enough

I use AVG and just have it run/update at a time when I'm never on. I also use Advanced System Care and Glary Utilities.

I would say that you should go for Microsoft's Security Essentials. As far as AVG Free Edition is concerned, though it performs well but it slows down the PC considerably. Though Avast is a better option. CCleaner is a free software and a must have. For folder security try Folder Lock.

I currently have their antivirus software program which I got from them as well (its 3 users & lasts for a year). That software is 1 user, so perfect for you. I personally wish I would have waited for this deal to come out, but oh well.

In the folder sec part I think the better option is truecrypt (it's a little bit harder to set up, but it's worth it)
