There is only one constant: change.

On April 1st of this year, Leadership made the announcement that Black Mesa was to be discontinued in favor of Dustbowl. Many of us were disappointed. Black Mesa had been our little corner of the eGO Team Fortress 2 Division, and the news was oppressively troubling. Some of us were even convinced this was too horrible to be true; that it surely must have been a vicious April Fools? Day prank. When this mentality ceded to acknowledgment of reality, tensions ran high and tempers flared. Objections ranged from Leadership reneging on pledges to preserve Black Mesa to the cynical way in which Dustbowl appeared to have little basis in fact for being an adequate replacement to pure ad hominem invective. The sense that a top-down decision, unapproved and unconsented to by the community, had been made and smacked of insincerity. Wherever one stood on the issue, it was plain from the responses generated that this was a painful loss.

Black Mesa was subsequently revived by a generous donation after making a successful run every week on Black Mesa Night, hosted by the Event Coordinators. After the novelty of the moment wore off, the server once again stumbled in its popularity, failing to draw consistent crowds as it had in the past. That is not to say that I have seen it as hopeless; indeed, I visit the server regularly on nights to help fill it as I can and have seen it reach maximum capacity. As much as the next person, I can say that map means something to me, having played it almost exclusively for half a year before being recruited there. Most of my closest friends in this community are its regulars, and I have deep respect for the Occupy Mesa movement that campaigned hard to save it.

By now you might be wondering, ?Why the history lesson?? I wanted to place in your mind, front and center, what has transpired with respect to Black Mesa in the past as I announce its future. Starting today, Black Mesa will be replaced by Doomsday, the new Pyromania map, permanently.

I urge you, before you rush to direct ordure at Leadership for this sudden change, to remember the needless furor raised when we let go of Black Mesa in April. Having stood on the other side of the Leadership/non-Leadership divide at that time as a proponent of Black Mesa, I can sense your concerns. Any and all Leaders will be available to field your questions regarding this change, which does not come easily to our community. In this time of transition, I respectfully request your openness to this change or at least courtesy in your articulation of dissent.

This decision was not made with any sense of levity. We will all be new to this map, and it is Leadership?s hope that we, as a community, might make the most out of this new frontier in our beloved, cartoony shooting game. We change in the name of progress, not in the name of caprice.

I thank you for your time, your understanding, and your dedication to our community.

As much as I've come to appreciate Mesa, I feel this change makes a lot of sense. Despite the recent jump in activity, Mesa has been pretty much dead since I joined eGO- Doomsday will bring a much needed boost to the server.

Furthermore, I'm fairly certain Mesa could still be used for events and such, am I correct? Hopefully yes, because Mesa is a great map.

You are correct I believe Mesa needs to remain an event until a better time arises and our server ranks are through the roof.

This is Outrageous!, I will riot day and night to keep mesa!, (I won't), Sad sad day again, but this time it will be changed with a worth a try server, not like dustblow thats sucks, a LOT.
RIP Blackmesa you will be remembered in the tip of my arrows and the explosion of every grenade that my Loch'n'load makes.

Of course we'll have events for mesa! During the time between we lost the 24/7 mesa and got the 6 month one, we had Mesa Monday events where we just played on mesa, So we'll have those again starting in july!

wasn't it mesa tuesday

I've been away from TF2 for awhile now and Mesa is where I played almost all the time (it was always full) and back then Dragonhill was working on a Mesa v2 is that still in the works?

I was here before MESA days, and still to this day enjoy that map dearly. DragonHill made a good mad. It used to be full and everything, but sadly its not what it used to be. It will be missed greatly.

Yes it was, check the blackmesa night video on my channel, in the section best of noise you will find someone saying blackmesa tuesdays.

And to you leadership, you made a great decision even though it's my favorite map. Am I sad? yes. Am I angry? no not really. And Caelestis don't say permanently changing the map to this map that came with the update. Nothing is ever certain. Imo we should have this mesa server now this new map go along with the updates for new maps or better yet when the server becomes unpopular change it ever so often to try things.

I'm going to go right ahead and say this is a disgrace to the TF2 community.

The blackmesa server was barely given a chance to get off it's feet, it was added around University exams when no one could play. And wasn't able to fill when high schools had exams, in the past month (since exams have ended) the server has gained momentum and it's rank rose steadily. It seems to me that once the new gimmick map came out with the pyro update, mesa was replaced with a quickplay server guaranteed to fill. This is not how a community should be run, this decision was rash and without any community input.

I'm tired of being that guy that whines every time something happens to mesa. Sure, not everyone likes the server, but a large portion of your longest members do, and by removing this server you are basically giving them the finger. I'm sure you knew I was going to write something like this, and I'm sure you could care less what one angry member thinks. I just wanted you to know how disappointed I am in this decision.

Mesa is just a community map... that happens to be liked by a big part of the community. Members and not members enjoyed it not only because of the map but because of the community, people is friendly, people play mesa for fun. TBH I'll miss my Mesa friends a lot.

This here. I don't love the map when it has like, 5-12 people, but when it's half full or almost full, it can be a blast because of the people there and the community.
