Computer problems

Lately I have been having major computer problems.
I've got a nice, old Dell Precision 370 with a GeForce 9600 GT. (Lol 2004...)
It all started when my family and I moved from our old house in town to a house out in the country that we have been restoring for a year. My computer worked absolutely fine in town, but as soon as i started it up in our new house it started acting screwy. When i played games i would have MASSIVE lag spikes with only 1 to 5 FPS and then it would play normally after about 10 or 20 seconds.

I ended up doing a virus scan, spy-bot scan, cleaned all the temp files, cleaned out my computer ,updated my video drivers ,and fixed all the registry errors.
It now crashes roughly a minute after startup and it does so consistently.

I've got a nice, old Dell Precision 370 with a GeForce 9600 GT. It has the latest Windows XP and everything is updated to my knowledge.
You guys got any suggestions or should i take it into the shop?

Unfortunately, doing a Google search doesnt reveal much. Do us a favor & use the run feature & type in dxdiag. This will pull up the specs on your cpu, memory, etc. Also open up your My Computer icon & tell us how big your hard drive is & how much space you have left.

Also which anti-virus program do you use? Some programs dont catch all the viruses, so beware what you have. If you have Norton (that was back before Symantec took them over), get rid of it. If you can afford it, go to your local Walmart store & get Trend Micro for $25. If not, go download AVG for free. Also Spy-Bot only goes so far when it comes to anti-spyware programs. I would suggest you get a program called SUPERAntispyware (also free). They tend to find stuff that Spy-Bot often misses.

Hardware wise, I would say a temporary fix would be to increase the memory. I really dont think anything can be upgraded without spending over $100. Also I would suggest starting to set aside $$ towards getting a new desktop. If your getting constant crashes along w/ 1-5 fps in game, then theres more 1 thing holding you back from pwning your enemies.

It's Xp get a new desktop or start upgrading. Deleting temp files won't help with the lag spikes, since you are out in the country you're further away from any HUB, which means lower upload/download speeds, go to speakeasy test your internet speed, if its below what your contract says, call your carrier have them send a tech out to test the lines from the control box to the house and then the box outside of the house to your phone jacks, i would believe its not a computer issue persay but maybe a line issue since you are restoring it the wires may be corroded or useless, i had the same problem and i had a tech come out and replace all the wires in my house and it fixed my problem. plus i wasnt runnign windows xp

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
Memory: 3070MB RAM (4 1GB Cards)

I use AVG Free.
I have 2 Hard Drives. C: has about 80GB and E: has about 40GB ( Its where I keep all my game stuff)

My internet connection is fine. We use a direct beam connection from town (microwave beam from a tower). All the wiring from it is brand new and our internet is about 2MB/s on a bad day.
