I am going to do a MASSIVE project for TF2, something that will be the "EXTREMELY' epic, heck, can't emphasize that enough, but one question, how am I going to record it? I have a decent laptop and this event is going to last from up to 5 to 15 minutes and I have no idea what program or anything, so I am asking you guys, what can I use to where it won't be too laggy to where I can...(Dangit, really don't want to reveal it yet :laugh: but to where a lot of things are going to go down and may raise the ping a little)

use source recorder. record filename into console where filename is the name of the video.
once you're done recording type stop.
then startmovie moviename h264 into console
then playdemo filename
and it will start rendering it frame by frame and once its done the video will be a nice 30fps

Will it record everything? like if your going into your backpacks, some messages, everything?

not sure if it records the bp, it records chat. not the steam overlay however.

Wait, steam overlay? sorry for asking so many questions, but I want to know everything before I use it. what is a steam overlay? Also do I have to download anything?

steam overlay, thats the thing that pops up when you shift tab. It will record everything though, your hud, in game chat etc etc. Again still not sure about the bp however.

And where would these recordings go? Will it last for 15 whole minutes? Will it also record stuff like trades and such? The little messages that pop up on the left?

If you need to record stuff just record it from console.
Hit your tilde key (~), then type record in console (record FILENAME).
To find your recording C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/ACCOUNTNAME/counter-strike:source/cstrike/ then find your FileName. It doesn't record overlays (when you alt+tab), it record the chat when it pops up on your screen. It bascially record your game, not anything else.

on the left? you mean in the chat if so then yea. Also it lasts until you type stop into console. They go into steam/steampps/yourusername/Team Fortress 2/tf

Whenever I used FRAPS it only recorded for 30 seconds(maybe a minute). Do i have to buy it(I will if it will go for over 15 minutes) not only that, but it gave me major lag too, can you tell me how to salve that problem? Really don't want to lag out for doing this

Fraps is rather intensive and creates large files. To record more than 30 seconds you can "buy" it. But honestly if its only source games youll be recording on just use the built in source recorder.

I'll try the source one and see how it goes, but it never hurts to have a backup plan....and a backup plan in case that backup plan doesn't work....I have to.... PLANCEPTION XD

umm, ok, say I got FRAPS from the website, and say it's only a limited version of it, do you think I should uninstall it and reinstall the one that FlyingWaffles is talking about? Or is there another website or something?
