I recently moved my pc downstairs to escape so of the heat. However, normally I have my pc hooked up to a tv through an HDMI port. Because I didn't want to move the tv I just stole my sister moniture that she won't be using (she is gone for 5 weeks) and proceeded to hook them up. My pc is now connected through the DVI ports. Unfortunetly after the mono startup screen and the "starting windows" screen have gone by, the moniture just cuts to black, the light changing from blue to orange (aka sleep mode). I am simply wondering what e problem may be, whether it be my video card, moniture, or even just the cable.

I should note my card does not have a VGA slot or I would use that. I should also note that the screen does show itself when booted in safe mode

Current PC specs:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.2ghz
ATI Radeon HD 5800 (MW2 Special Edition)
12GB Ram

I have this issue but idk if we are on the same issue. The way I always solve it is just start my computer with my screen shut off and wait for it to completely boot. I give it about 2-3 minutes for it to boot then come back and turn the screen back on to see what happened. Works for me everytime but im not sure.

Try uunplugging the power to the monitor after the light goes orange, then plug it back in.

Hmm, neither of those options seems to be working so I'm leading towards either the cable or the moniture.

Well. It could just be the cable as you said. I suggest just grabbing your other monitor and see if it has a DVI port you can test it in. If its doing the same thing then It might be the cable. It could be the monitor though aswell.

Well, turns out it was the moniture, so I went and bought a nice shiny new one. :/ But this new one is really nice so I say worth it in the end.
