Can you guys help me out? What are some of the sights I need to see? I'm mainly going up there to watch the Atlanta Braves play the Nationals, but I need stuff to do in between the games, so can you guys help me plan my trip? Here's what I want to see:

Spy Museum
National Archive
Museum of Science and Technology
Museum of American History
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier/Changing of the Guard

So if anyone here has been there, or lives nearby, let me know what I should see. Thanks!
 
See the Air and Space museum. They have all the world war two pilots uniforms from all the sides and 4 or 5 planes. Its pretty awesome.

To add:
White House: Not because of the white house it's self but because of the little lady that sits out in front of it in a tent that preaches bad stuff about the government and stuff (I hope she's still there :() She was funny.

Smithsonian ANYTHING.

Lincoln Memorial: They say, if you look at a certain spot on the statue, you'll find the secret lever to the underground hideout of the mushroom kingdom. Not to mention he's HUGE.

And i can't really remember anything else we did...OH WAIT

Mt. Vernon: That place was awesome. We talked to some of the security guards and they told us the story of when they filmed National Treasure there. It was pretty interesting.

Oh and their burgers all over the place are AMAZING.

I second the Air and Space Museum, awesome place! Also, if you want to see a better selection of planes then check out the Air and Space Museum around Dulles airport, they have the space shuttle, SR-71, "Enola Gay", Concorde, among tons of others. Every time I have been there, the Arlington Cemetery blows me away each time, I love that place.

For places to eat, hit up the historic Ben's Chili Bowl. It was big in the Civil Rights movement and their chili is phenomenal. If you want to check out the Capitol then head over to their website now and make an appointment to take a tour while you are there. It will save you the wait and the tour itself is pretty cool, and free like almost everything else in D.C.
 
Don't stray away from the tourist attractions. A lot of Washington DC is a less than desirable place to be. :P
 
Actually, DC has got much better. I grew up there and still live close. SE/Annacostia is the only area you want to avoid. Anywhere in NW is good.

Air & Space is great, and anything on the mall is fun to see. I would say Natural History, Air & Space and American History is great. American History just went through a recent renovation and subsequent restoration of the SS banner.

Archives are a bit of a yawn. It's very cool if you have a lot of time or are doing research but I wouldn't recommend it.

As for food, I don't know what you like but Ben's Chili Bowl is the jam. If you want to party at night, Adams Morgan is a great place to go.

If you ever came to Texas Me, Lung, and Nuke will take you to the gun range to shoot large exotic guns because Texas is awesome and we love our guns
 
so i added the air and space museum to the list, as well as arlington cemetery (which was on the list, i just forgot to add it). so it sounds like i have my day(s) covered outside of the braves games.

by the way, sonic, the braves would beat the fool out of the rangers.
 
The national archives line is forever...just remembered that. I second the National Mall. Check out the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Between the two is the World War Two memorial next to mirror lake which is nice.
 
I live 30 minutes from DC so i've been there quite a few times.

Walk the mall and enjoy the sights.
GO TO Museums they are not boring and are a lot of fun(and they get you out of the heat and most are FREE)

Manouch Hot Dog Stand cheap and delicious or the food court lots of different stuff.

Finally, remember your in the nations capitol heck the capitol of the world have fun and take lots of pictures

Pictures by me from my trip there. We spend 2 days there and never even got to the museums.
 
It looks just like i remember it Anni. Only difference is at the Jefferson, we went at night when the lightning bugs came out. its a real treat for me since we never get lightning bugs around here anymore
 
Finished touring DC

So we arrived in DC around 7PM on Friday, which didn't leave us much to do, sober ate at a nearby Chili's and slept. On Saturday, we got on the metro, and went to the Spy Museum, which I thought was fun. The $20 entrance fee is steep, but I thought it was worth it. From there, we went to National Archive and the Air and Space Museum, which was a blast. We tried to go to Arlington that day via shuttle, but it stopped running when we tried to board. We went back to the hotel to change and stuff for the Braves game. Sonic, you'll be happy to hear that they lost. Sunday morning, we got up and drove to Arlington and watched the changing of the guard.

I say it was a great trip over all. Thanks for the suggestions and everything. I'll be sure to post some pictures from the air and space museum when I get home.
