Any pointers to playing TF2 for me?

I don't understand why everyone's trying to say focus on one class you really like, 'cause there's 9 classes to choose from... So why not be good at them all? I like to vary it up when I play.

I think it stems from people getting comfortable with a certain class and then, when they decide to switch to a different class, they find that they're terrible at it- nobody wants to feel like they're terrible at anything- so they stick to the class that they're good with. Also, some people (myself included) have, at some point, paid attention to the ranking system; and I can tell you it's hard to pull yourself away from that when learning a new class (your stats will undoubtedly hit the pooper). It just takes a lot of time and a lot of patience.

And I pay no attention to the ranking system, at least I don't yet, because I just play for fun.

Realize that it's not a death match. It is an objective based game. Capturing the point or pushing the cart should be your goal.

I understand you got plenty of advice already, but I just wanna give my advice:

People always seem to say that the Soldier is a good beginner class because he can shoot from a distance, and the explosive radius is pretty big for the stock launcher. But playing as any class is different, and is played differently. Just find your best class, and learn how he plays the best!

Just find the class you enjoy the most and stick with it! The best way to get good at this game is practice, practice and practice. Watching videos on youtube sometime help you but it's all a matter of your game style and putting you in a situation (For instance since you enjoy the pyro at the moment) Air blasting projectiles back at the target that shot it at you. If you need any help feel free to pop on vent and ask some people. There's always a bunch of people willing to help.

^This!!!! and Watch skilled players play. Gamingrobot, Nik , and Wilson for example are good to watch as far as seeing the limits of each class etc.
