I consider myself to be a "casual" graphic artist- I enjoy the medium, but I don't take myself too seriously. So, when I joined these forums, I was hopeful that with such a diverse mass of forum members this place would have an active creative hub for people like me; and it does. But it's dead.
Or at least it's dying. In the months that I have been here I have seen showcase threads made and go weeks before receiving their first reply- and then only that one. That isn't right.
When people showcase their creativity, they are showing not just a pretty picture or a catchy tune or what-have-you, but also time and effort. They are looking for confirmation that, yes, people are paying attention to what they create and are interested. It isn't a selfish desire- it's a human one. That is what community is after all, a collective affirmation that other people are and think and do.
Consequently, when this work goes unnoticed or is ignored, the artists stop making their art and clear out. This is what has happened to our art section.
We need to rekindle that artistic flame, people. Whether it's graphic art or music or literature, we need to bring it back.
So come on, everyone. Lets do this!
