Low frame rate on games

So ive been playing Just Cause 2 recently. However, my frame rate has really gone downhill. I ran their benchmark test & found out my avg fps was a lil over 8.50. The most I got was like 11, which is absolutely horrible. It takes about 1 sec for the game to recognize what im wanting to do in the game when the action should be instant. My setup is in my sig, however instead of 4gb, I have 6gb of memory, so thats not a problem. Also it displayed my settings, which I have everything either off or to a low setting, which I should be able to get easily 30 fps.

Any ideas or suggestions? Also I tried restarting Steam to see if that was the issue, but its not. Just so you guys know I recently installed some mods to help w/ increased distance on the grappling hook & ammo, but quickly took them out. That shouldnt be a factor.

Is the vid card over heating have you cleaned the dust out in a while? As always make sure drivers are updated also.

Unfortunately there can be a bunch of causes for low FPS in games. The hardware could be on it's way out, the CPU could be under extreme load due to other software running in the background, your hard drive might be slow, drivers could be out of date or the new driver has bugs, etc. The list goes on so it's hard to tell you exactly what your specific issue is. I would open up the built in performance monitor to see exactly what is under stress and start there. To get to the performance monitor hold down control + shift + escape to get the task manager. Once you're looking at the task manager choose the performance tab. At the bottom of the performance tab window there is a button that says "Resource Monitor", click it and a new window opens up with all kinds of individual monitoring sections such as CPU, Disk (hard drive), Network, and Memory (RAM). Each section will expand to display text you can look at but simply enough you can watch the graph to the right of the section to see what's happening.

I would load up the game(s) you're having issues with and have the resource monitor open. Take a screen shot of the that window showing the intense load and paste it here and we might get a clue to work with.

Hey Sicko, so I noticed that while im in game & I have the game minimized, the Resource Monitor constantly goes into a not responding state. It does this about every 3-4 secs (give or take). http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=314w0ua&s=6

If theres anything else you need me to do to find out whats causing this specifically, let me know. I know its not the video card; ive only had that a year. It might be the hard drive tho since ive had that for like possibly 5 years now.

Just from that screenshot alone I can see your CPU is under heavy load. I see a ton of Chrome.exe open. Windows Sidebar is also resource heavy for some computers. I'm sending you a PM so we can schedule when we might be able to meet up on vent and fix this.
