I didn't write the rules, I just play by them. I didn't make the point system, but I will exploit it's weakness, as I will exploit my enemies's weaknesses. The game developers have designed a balanced system. This IS DOD:S ... any legal tactic is part of the game balance. You can't wish away "campers" (I hate this pathetic gamerism). If you don't rush, you dont get the big points. That's the built-in balance in the game. If you die too often, you are of no use to your team... Dead men don't plant, and they can't cover their brother's back . You not only lose points when you die... you lose time in respawn (nobody ever scored from the penaltybox in hockey). Warfare is deception, it is also time/asset management. Campers don't lose battles ... unfocused rushers lose battles... don't blame the scabbard for the weakness of the blade!
The winning team is adaptable. It uses communication. Covering & converging fields of fire. Moves as a unit... with purpose. This is not the typical behavior on eGO servers. This is the root cause of failure on most "teams". A winning team will bear down under adversity. Losers fall upon each other like wolves.
Ultimtely this is a gameplay issue. Players on eGO servers are encouraged, to enjoy their own style of play, within the rules. Greifing is prohibited.
And yet, the greifing persists.
I want to play without being verbally abused, insulted and harrased by "O's". (You don't like me for my gameplay? Not my stance on abortion? Not my religion? MY GAMEPLAY!?! That's how you judge me? Shut your mouth!) I don't want to spend my time in fruitless persuit on a ban for your behavior. I don't know if your trying to be funny or you are mindless of the unwelcome elitist-gamer crap you spew. I recently removed some of you from my steam friends. My hope is this will change my online experience.
eGO has a split personality. On the one hand , you want new blood. On the other, you reject the new blood. Some people are pumping it in as fast as they can. Others delight it dumping it out just as quickly. I hope the rescuers don't get fatigued ... and give up the fight. Stop sapping their reserve of strength by making it more difficult to retain good players.
Apathy towards points is a natural progression. The nOOb sees it as the yardstick by which competency and skill is measured. Like any murderer, the novelty of the kill fades with experience. This is the line which the typical gamer moves to the newest FPS of the week. There are some who stick around. The game is now MORE, than kills and stats! It's a mental exercise more than a conflict ( eg. Skippy on donner). But, now an ugliness manifests itself. Arrogance, elitism and contempt for the less mature/skilled player. Maybe it was always in our personality. Maybe it's human nature. This is what will bring us down. Not cheaters. Not "the wrong kind of player". Attitude.
I don't see this is taken with the same seriousness of purpose that admins approach swearing, pedophilla, nudity, etc. My hypothisis is the longer an admin has played, the more likely he is corrupted by these gamer biases and actively engage in the greifing themselves. This corrosion at the top affects new players by allowing an envirionment where greifing and abuse are tolerated (visit strand in the evenings).
In closing. I grew up watching wwII reruns in black & white on a 13" screen. I trained as a cold warrior and spent ALL my time in "the field". I love dod:s for the unmodern warfare and tactics. I fight as I was trained. I go prone when taking fire. I survive. I do what my drill Sgt taught me. The battle will be fought again. We will learn our enimies weakness, and expolit them. The battle will be fought again. We will never win the war. But, the battle, will be fought ... again. DOD:S is perfect, with all its flaws. Without your greifing.
