Will a PCIe x16 slot work with a 3.0?

Title says it all. So we just got our stuff in, and we plan on using our old HP. So i plan on putting a graphics card into it to cancel out the integrated video, so it has an ASUS P5LP-LP Leonite motherboard, which has 3 PCI slots, and one PCI Express x16 slot, ive been hunting around tiger direct, and find that all mother boards usually have PCIe slots too, so this confuses me, so im wondering if i could place at least an HD7770 into it(PCIe 3.0 cards to be specific). Because it seems The best one thats PCIe 1 is a 1gb dx11 Diamond HD6450. Basically, can i put a PCIe 2.0 and up into the computer?

All pcie slots and cards are backwards compatible. Doesn't matter if it is a pcie 3.0 slot with a pcie 1.0 card or vice versa. By design, it should work.

FYI: You can actually call the company's tech support and ask this same question. I was dealing with a bad fan at the time, and they were sending me a replacement, and I asked a similar question at the time (same answer: Backwards compatible)
