I agree that watching the name come out of the hat would be very fun, but we get a few hundred recruits a month. Someone on the PSC would have to print out and cut up hundreds of slips of paper - every month. I don't know; maybe they wouldn't mind that so much, but I still voted for randomly assigned and chosen numbers.
