Terrible, Terrible News

Some of you may not care but I will not be able to play Battlefield for the foreseeable future. A sad day indeed for me as I had looked forward to the AK maps and now I can't play them.

My video card an old GTX 470, as some may be familiar with the model runs notoriously hot. Well it turns out after running that hot for over a year being constantly put through its paces as a hardcore gamer, it has started to break down. I have consistent lock ups with the red and green dots all over the screen followed by either an application crash or a hard reboot of my pc. This is quite inconvenient when it happens after 5 - 10 minutes in BF.

I tried to clean it out and replace the thermal compound. To no avail as it is clear the problem no longer lies with it overheating but that I had already done the damage to the core itself.

I also won't be able to get a new one anytime soon as I am unemployed and have no disposable income. I might be able to get one with my student loans but that's technically a no-no(buying vid cards with loans meant for education).

I know with this news will be much lamentation of the women and children at my absence from Battlefield but I assure you my heart is with them. Also I will still host the events from behind procon I just won't be able to partake in the action myself.

P.S. I am not opposed to anyone starting a Get Wild a New Video Card charity :P.

Ok guys the fact of the matter is that we need to get Mr.Wildkard a new graphics card, without our EC we are all doomed.

Ideas ? Thoughts ? Suggestions ?

Anyone have a spare video card lying around ? Are we willing to set up a “get wild a new graphics card “ fund ? We are all family here, so lets figure something out.

I've got an EVGA 560ti SC that I've been looking to get rid of. Someone on the forums agreed to buy it but it's been a week and still no payment. I'm going to give him until the weekend but if nothing happens by then I'll make you a hell of a deal on it.

still have a spare gts 250, and remember to always check your gpu temps if you know it gets hot

I have a 9800 GT that you can have, but I laugh for even mentioning it because I don't think BF3 will run on it.

has he contacted the manufacturer to see if they can replace or fix the card ?

forty - It would depend on how much your offering it for? It still might be a week or two before I have any money I can maybe spend on a vid card.

Bodayga - That would still require me to have money as any warranty on it is gone as I can guarantee I don't have the proof of purchase from over a year ago which i believe is required in that case.

Everyone else - They all actually would run it just barely though. If I were to choose one though I'd have to go with Randy's 5750. If I remember correctly it's the only one with Directx11 support which alone makes it the better card out of the three mentioned.

if need be i could spare about $10 for the "get wild a new gfx card fund" or we could pimp him out on the streets. which quite possibly be a win win for all of us and get us all new gfx cards :P

I will guarantee the first $20 of any purchase agreement, sent via PayPal. I don't know this guy, but if you all like him and need him, I'm in for the team.

Papa

im short on cash this month so i could only afford $15

proof of purchase would only be the bar code on the box it came in. bfg never asked for proof of purchase, i turned in 2 cards to them when they where still around making vid cards. maybe you could get lucky.
if the card is prone to heating up then you might not be the only one with this problem. give it a try by calling and dont bring up proof of purchase if they dont ask for it. you might just luck out, gl hope things work out for you.

So I've had it listed for $140 shipped, if this guy falls through as I suspect he will, it's yours for $100 (hardship discount and all). Holding onto it for a couple of weeks is not a big deal, I'm not really in need of money yesterday, and if something better comes your way I'll just relist it back at $140.

If you're interested, let me know, and I'll keep you posted on whether or not it this guy actually buys it.

The gtx 560 will also support Directx11..just looked it up....:P

Well I knew that :p. I had already addressed forty's offer lol. Of the 3 that people are willing to just let me have an old card, the 5750 is the only one with d11 support.

As far as that offer though $100 is definitely worth it. And with $45 total already pledged I might just be able to take you on that offer. I'd still have to figure out something for the last $55 but I'm sure i could.

I do want to say thank you to all of your guys support so far. I shall surely remember each and every one of you for when I am capable of returning the kindness.

Let me know how far you get with the pledge and I can cover the remainder.

Well if you're going for Forty's card, I'll help with the donation fund =)

Tumblin already said he'd cover the remainder, but I'd like to cover it too. So maybe we split it?
