Rule one: Don't listen to compton.

Rule two: never prone with sniper or rifle.

Rule three: Thompson is the devil.

Rule four: When in doubt, Pistol Out.

Rule five: The more you play with a weapon, the better you get. Start out with easy weapons and progress to harder weapons. Set a goal for yourself every time you join a server. "Today i will get x amount of kills with (Gun)"

Rule six: The longer you scope in with the sniper, the more time you have to get killed.

Rule seven: Learn this pattern when sniping: Scope Look Shoot Move. Scope: Easy, Scope in. Look: Look at your surrounding for any possible counter snipers or any enemies in general. Shoot: Shoot said enemies. Move: Move instantly out of the way so you can reload and not get shot.

Rule eight: Don't rage if you get killed by campers. Remember their places and adjust accordingly. Remember: Everyone has patterns. The better you see them, the better you can react to them and flank them resulting in a kill.

Rule nine: Never tape your screen so you know where your crosshairs are. Memorize the position of which the bullet is fired when noscoping so you can adjust accordingly and not be accused of being an idiot with tape on his screen.

Rule 10: If you need help, ask.

Rule 11: If anyone says they can out do you, prove them wrong and murder their face in.

About sonic's rule 8. When you start to know your way around the maps, start to change your patterns as a counter to this rule. Change suddenly your route and maybe weapon also, surprise is the key. :)

For my first months in this game coming from CSS i played MG, then moved to support and never looked back, picking up sniping on my way to not being terrible.

Good Look and soon enough you'll be wondering why you didn't start earlier.

Try giving every weapon a chance. With the rifle, strafe side to side and make sure to stop right before you take a shot. With support you can crouch to reduce recoil. If you prone it reduces your recoil even more, but it makes you an easy target. Try not to be predictable, some of the better players might pre-fire corners if they see you there every time.

Communication man, Always Communicate. It's good to be able to hold your own. but you have to call out enemy movement. Mg's, Snipers ect. That's the only way your teammates will know and your Snipers can act on it. I always pick a battle buddy to join in game with me. That way i'm rarely caught alone. Always have backup. My First rule though, Is have fun! and Don't Join Donner unless you have some serious time to kill hahaha.

See ya, Around the battlefield!

Glad to see you are coming over to dod every once in a while carlos! Just come on and play with us and you should get better.

Damnit i knew i missed one:

Rule Twelve: Predictability is death in a hand basket. Don't take the exact same path several times in a row. I myself never take the same path more than 2 times in a row unless i'm trying to draw out a certain enemy that has seen me do it often

I go church every time, and still kill you every time.

I have around 60,000 sniper kills- but there are still a LOT of guys right here that are way better than me- Like Sonic said, the longer you are in scope, the more chance you have of getting hit by about any weapon.

I would like to expand that thought just a little, if I may... it might help, maybe not- it helps me

1. never ever stand in one spot longer than 1 second, if at all-

2a. quickly strafe side to side at the same time as lining up your target WITHOUT scope towards the center of your screen- only then should you pull scope. then, if all is right, you will already be on or close to your target, so you can scope, shoot, and get out of dodge as fast as you can. If you are way off, dont think that you HAVE to shoot- just unscope and keep moving

2b. once you learn the specific maps, you will learn the good and bad spots to snipe from... there are a few that you can sit in one good sniping spot in scope for a while. I do it every now and then when there is a particular enemy sniper or MG that goes consistently to the same spot, I try to change his/her mind about doing that :)

3. I have noticed many many times that people that come from CS:S to DoD rarely have a problem picking up the game. Its mostly getting used to the weapons. the recoil on the support weapon for either side is nasty, but you will learn to drag your mouse down when more than burst fire is needed

4. rifle class is much the same, but I move a LOT more as rifleman. constant strafing, just only pausing for a split second to get a round off. gotta mix up the strafing too- cant just evenly go back and forth left to right- throw a little zag when they think you will zig.

5. Rocket and MG (to me MG is boring- I hate sitting in one spot) are fun- assault has its uses. welcome aboard and have fun! ask anything!

Look, these sniper fellows dont know what they're talking about

Support is the way to go, the recoil is a pain, but once you're able to control the weapon, like a conductor controls an orchestra, you'll be a force to reckon with.

As for the MG being boring because you sit in one spot, Talk to Sparty, Chuck Norris*, or Me. We'll show you the true potential of the MG42 (The .30 cal is dead to me now), and all of its glory. The '42 is a weapon of magic and mayhem, able to clear out a room of three or four enemys before they can say "Jebus is Compton/Chuck/Sparty" and you know you had a good time killing those enemies because you're left barely able to walk and panting like a dog. My hunting ground with the '42 now is the Church in Anzio, you can find me preaching to both sides about the glory of the MG and its 250 rounds leaving its red hot chambers

Sniper is by far the most demanding kit found in DoDs...at least for me. I can't just pop up and scope and kill in a few second. I love to take my time.

MG is the easiest to use, along with support kits. Set up the MG, kill a few, then relocate. Rinse and Repeat for great results. Nothing else is easier.
I have a 15 kill strike because of the MG. And in the older ranking system(not gameme), i've had either a 19 kill strike or a 22. Not sure anymore.

Hell, setting it outside of Field on the Allies ruins is the best spot in Donner.

Thompson is a beginner's choice, honestly. It is a beast in this game.

Want to cause some rage amongst the ranks of players, choose thompson. Preferably headshot one mile away. :P

But seriously, try them all out to see what fits your hand the best in the beginning and just enjoy the ride! :)

DOnt start with sniper. Most important difference between CSS and DoD are sprinting and nades. One nade even close to an enemy does over 100 damage, use nades wisely. Dont be afraid to use Thompson/MP40 easiest weapons to use and very deadly (they are not like the autos in CSS). If you are an awper in CSS you will like the K98 rifle. The garand is unlike any weapon in CSS but you should learn how to use it. Also, good idea to pick up enemy weapons. So learn to use them all. Personally I progressed from Thompson to support to garand to K98 last. Rocket is also fun to use.

Any decent sniper will take out the MG who sets up, its the MG that doesnt set up that causes a problem, the one who jumps from the windows and kills everyone at the first flag for the cap. A good MG that doesnt set up (i.e. Chuck, Sparty) will be able to hold down a building all by himself and make people (i.e. Me) rage quit and hate them forever. The MG class is probably the most effective at holding a building like church down so your team can use it effectively, and you support them because the Allies cant shoot from the windows or tower any more. Plus, if MG wasnt so effective at being a jerk, why would we lock the class until we get enough people.
The Answer:
Because it's the class Anzio deserves, but not the one it needs right then. So they lock it. Because they cant take it. Because it's not the sniper. He's a loud killer, a watchful predator. A dark Machine Gun!

And a decent Machine gunner knows where to set up properly. A sniper can only do so much against a well placed machine gunner. :)

As well, staying in one place for too long will invite grenades, and not snipers: from my own experience. I lost count of how many times i've raged when i get killed to pieces from rifle nades. Especially from indirect/bounced grenades.
