any tips on dod

Pay attention to your map, you can see enemy movements such as flanking and whatnot.

Give yourself time to adjust to the game, and dont rage if you are not doing well. I started as a 0.6 kdr player, though I am not the best, I have definitely improved. ;)

And a decent Machine gunner knows where to set up properly. A sniper can only do so much against a well placed machine gunner. :)

As well, staying in one place for too long will invite grenades, and not snipers: from my own experience. I lost count of how many times i've raged when i get killed to pieces from rifle nades. Especially from indirect/bounced grenades.

Nah, if I set up even Sonic will be able to get me 8/10 times, unless its a tight corner for the sniper like the field entrances on donner. Ive set up in every place possible on Donner, Kalt, and Anzio. There are places where the nades wont be able to go without the rifleman exposing themself first and any good MG will get a prey that stands out in the open like an idiot. Every time you have MGs in the sniper house windows on Kalt, its going to be a Sniper or a good rifle who gets them out (Of course the occasional support will get inside the house and bash their head in)

Now if an MG is being a non-eGO allowed name and camping in the far, far back of the map close to his first flag when your team has the rest of his flags then yeah, (s)he can be a bit of a pain to get for a sniper, but not because the MG is set up in a great spot, its because th spawn waves come out and the sniper had to deal with the Supports and Assaults running down the street at him

For the part of your quote that I bolded: Set me up in the best spot on any map with an MG, and stick Sumac, Blue, or Ron on that map with a sniper and see who wins. Spoiler Alert: It wont be me

He's up to .7 now;)

~ aim for the head ~

And the most important quality is playing with the mindset of teamplay.

surprised nobody has mentioned it, but come hang out with us in ventrilo when you play, especially if its late afternoon or later in the day.

What he ^^^^^ said. We can give you pointers on the fly and answer any questions. Plus you will have a ton of fun.

Any decent sniper will take out the MG who sets up, its the MG that doesnt set up that causes a problem, the one who jumps from the windows and kills everyone at the first flag for the cap. A good MG that doesnt set up (i.e. Chuck, Sparty) will be able to hold down a building all by himself and make people (i.e. Me) rage quit and hate them forever. The MG class is probably the most effective at holding a building like church down so your team can use it effectively, and you support them because the Allies cant shoot from the windows or tower any more. Plus, if MG wasnt so effective at being a jerk, why would we lock the class until we get enough people.
The Answer:
Because it's the class Anzio deserves, but not the one it needs right then. So they lock it. Because they cant take it. Because it's not the sniper. He's a loud killer, a watchful predator. A dark Machine Gun!

Well played sir. Well Played. But when you reminded me of yet another rule...Probably the most important

RULE 13:

YOU WILL GET MAD. YOU WILL THEN SUCK MAJORLY. IT HAPPENS. GET OVER IT.

PS Lung and Compton shall die a horrible death via 30.06 shoved into skull at a very high velocity

Nah, if I set up even Sonic will be able to get me 8/10 times, unless its a tight corner for the sniper like the field entrances on donner.

9/10.
Oh and field entrance on donner? I'll kill you 7/10 times. With a rifle too. That was one of my first major accomplishments. Back when i played donner daily. So yeah, rethink your points =P

Hm...I'm far from an expert, but let me add a few things:
  1. There are non-trivial differences between the weapons on each side. Learn those differences so you're not surprised. I found http://www.d3scene.com/forum/other-games/18935-dod-source-weapon-guide.html a useful reference; if anyone has a better one, please feel free to offer it up.
  2. Learn how to prime grenades - this is key. If you just throw/fire a grenade, your enemy has time to move away from it - or pick it up and throw it back. Priming regular grenades is easy - just hold the fire key until you're ready to throw. You can also "prime" rifle grenades by firing them into the ground in front of you and picking them up. Careful, though - hold on to them for too long and they'll go off in your face! NB - I'm still working on this whole grenade timing thing :/
  3. Drop your spare ammo can for your teammates - especially machine gunners and rocketeers. They go through their ammo quickly, especially while suppressing. This doesn't cost you any extra ammo. It's bound to the "H" key by default - just hit that, and make sure not to run over the ammo and pick it up yourself.
  4. Communication and teamwork is key - especially since some capture points (like the center "tank" point in Donner) take two people to capture.
  5. Read the DoD:S FAQ's sticky thread. It includes some useful performance tips. The strategic maps linked in there will be very useful in learning the "proper" names for different parts of each map.
If anything I'm saying here is contradicted by someone else, I'd trust them over me, though. :)

best rule ever keep your head down and you wont get shot lol. No seriously everyone has great points to survivng this cruel and sometimes insane game. But nothing beeats playing with all the weapons and maps untill you know them inside out and where both teams converge after round start always and I MEAN always cook your grenades when throwing where you know they are at. but anyways glad to see you come over if you see me in server dont hesitate to ask a question I will gladly help in any way i can

I'll have to test that in Anzio, then. hehe. I haven't seen Sumac or Ron in action lately. But I can test that with the Anzio regulars.

On a good day i will hit you 10/10. Normal, I'd miss once or twice. Bad day 7/10. Try your luck. Mainstreet MG. If you kill me first that means i expected you somewhere else and will adjust the next life. If i miss, thats a whole different story

thanks im start hang in ventrilo when i play hope no one minds and show up to the events thanks alot guys = )

cool, cya (well hear ya) in vent. Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but nades will blow up after five seconds once you prime them (by hitting left mouse), even if still in yourhand. Hold left mouse down until ready to throw. For best results time it so the nade blows up when it reaches the target. Also, nades can be picked up by opposing team and thrown back at you if you give them time.

Rule one: Don't listen to compton.

Rule two: never prone with sniper or rifle.

Rule three: Thompson is the devil.

Rule four: When in doubt, Pistol Out.

Rule five: The more you play with a weapon, the better you get. Start out with easy weapons and progress to harder weapons. Set a goal for yourself every time you join a server. "Today i will get x amount of kills with (Gun)"

Rule six: The longer you scope in with the sniper, the more time you have to get killed.

Rule seven: Learn this pattern when sniping: Scope Look Shoot Move. Scope: Easy, Scope in. Look: Look at your surrounding for any possible counter snipers or any enemies in general. Shoot: Shoot said enemies. Move: Move instantly out of the way so you can reload and not get shot.

Rule eight: Don't rage if you get killed by campers. Remember their places and adjust accordingly. Remember: Everyone has patterns. The better you see them, the better you can react to them and flank them resulting in a kill.

Rule nine: Never tape your screen so you know where your crosshairs are. Memorize the position of which the bullet is fired when noscoping so you can adjust accordingly and not be accused of being an idiot with tape on his screen.

Rule 10: If you need help, ask.

Rule 11: If anyone says they can out do you, prove them wrong and murder their face in.

Very nice.
You forgot an important one: melee as much as possible.

Most importantly, just find your own style of play and enjoy it (whether it be camping, rushing, capping, nading, etc.). Don't be worried about needing to conform to a specific style of play with any class just because "most people" say that's the way you should be playing.

Yup, clearing rooms with no-scope shots with sniper rifle is an option too, you just got to feel lucky!

If you want to try out a weapon that only has limited slots (Machine Gun, Rocket, Sniper) tell the game to put you on random class. You will end up as something different every time you spawn. It is important that you play all of the classes so that you can learn their limitations as well as their perks.

I don't recommend this to a total noob, as it can be disorienting. You are better off spending a week playing one class and then the next week playing another. But when the time comes to play something other than Rifle, Assault, or Support this will get you an opportunity to try them without pubs complaining that you are tying up a reserved slot.

If you do get a reserved slot don't let them bully you into giving it up because "so and so is better". If you have the slot it's yours. Just remember; other people want it too. Don't play it all night.

Rifle class is underrated. You get two grenades like support and when you right click you get iron sights (restricted view, better accuracy).

Assault is one of the most forgiving classes for a new player. The guns have almost no recoil (I never understood that) and you can fire them on the move. You can't do that as support or rifle if memory serves. Assault get one frag grenade and one smoke grenade. Throwing your smoke grenade is almost certain to annoy someone. Half the time the annoyed people are on your side. The best use I can think of for smoke is to obscure yourself from snipers when you cap. Someone should have a thread dedicated to the right and wrong way to use smoke.
