I'm all for improvements, but Apple is passing on the costs of the change to the customers while making a profit. Those adapters are probably being manufactured for pennies. It's not unreasonable to expect them to be packaged in with your phone.

When I upgraded my PC's graphics card, it came with both DVI to VGA and mini-HDMI to HDMI adapters. I would've been annoyed if I had to go out and buy them seperately.

Who cares if it isn't innovative, a massive chunk of the IPhone user base will thankfully be upgrading. Now maybe everyone can start rolling out their 4G networks on a wider scale.

On a different note, it looks as though your wishes have been granted, possibly. This hasn't been widely confirmed yet, but it seems that Apple will include a free 30-pin adapter with all iPhone 5's.

Update: Maybe this won't happen. Looks like an error on the website. If so, Apple usually sides with the error and will send them out for free, ex. Free bumper cases for the 4. We shall see.

Did you forget the fact that Apple pushes an update for older iPhones when a new one is out, which causes it to slow down drastically making you want to buy a newer version.

I've stopped buying iPhones and went for Android phones instead, with more capabilities.

Also, OP, your estimate is wrong because they have to make, market and they distribute the phones at a lower price to vendors.
