I just use the splash marks on the mini-map that vert mentioned and hone in on a position (usually a flag) which works pretty well. Helps to press M to open the large map. Also, didn't realize but i was able to shoot down a scout that flew right over me by aiming as high as I could so the rockets go almost straight up. Sorry I didn't read the guide first so hopefully this isn't all on there.
