Number of Spaces After Periods Opinion Poll

How many spaces do you put after a period and before a new sentence? Some people are taught two and some are taught one. I want to see how eGO breaks down.

Back in typing class, about forty years ago, we were taught to ALWAYS use two spaces after a period. In the last ten years, however, I noticed that on published material on the internet they tend to always have only one space. I could never figure it out, and I still do two spaces all the time. On my Blackberry, in fact, if I do two spaces it automatically inserts a period at the end of the sentence. But I found this, from the Chicago Manual of Style:

(And yes, there really are people who's job it is to sit around and think of such things.)

This got me through high school...college, not so much.

I always enlarged the periods a few font sizes to make essays look longer.
