Here are the traits of a good leader, do you see your self qualifing for all these? Do you see the admins doing this? Your parents? Your Teachers? Your Friends?
Honest — Display sincerity, integrity, and candor in all your actions. Deceptive behavior will not inspire trust.
Competent — Base your actions on reason and moral principles. Do not make decisions based on childlike emotional desires or feelings.
Forward-looking — Set goals and have a vision of the future. The vision must be owned throughout the organization. Effective leaders envision what they want and how to get it. They habitually pick priorities stemming from their basic values.
Inspiring — Display confidence in all that you do. By showing endurance in mental, physical, and spiritual stamina, you will inspire others to reach for new heights. Take charge when necessary.
Intelligent — Read, study, and seek challenging assignments.
Fair-minded — Show fair treatment to all people. Prejudice is the enemy of justice. Display empathy by being sensitive to the feelings, values, interests, and well-being of others.
Broad-minded — Seek out diversity.
Courageous — Have the perseverance to accomplish a goal, regardless of the seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Display a confident calmness when under stress.
Straightforward — Use sound judgment to make a good decisions at the right time.
Imaginative — Make timely and appropriate changes in your thinking, plans, and methods. Show creativity by thinking of new and better goals, ideas, and solutions to problems. Be innovative!
For those who are strong enough to admit they do not follow all these traits, i applaud you. My NJROTC program has beaten these traits into me, i apply these traits to anything and everything i do in life.
For those of you whom believe you are a great leader, if you are correct and ALL of these traits apply to you, reflect upon others your ways. You are a role model in the community and among your peers. Remember not to give a bad example when around others.
If you are some of these, i have nothing but my best wishes for you. Being a leader is not an easy thing like some people try to say it is. It is a very hard responsiblity to take hold of. Yes, there is power in it, and that is why most people automatically try to become leaders among theri peers. As soon as things start collapsing and everyone is looking for their guidance, you find out who is the a real leader.
I hope this provokes thoughts about your life and yourself. You have one life, make it the best you can. Don't be the same as everyone else like the media wants you to be. Stand out. Be different. Be a leader.
