In all sniper frag videos, where the cursor is to the player is different from where the nullet hits (usually the target's head).

Can someone tell me how this is so?

I don't understand what you are saying? Are you talking about the kill feed in the top right?

I'm talking about the actual shot. When the player fires, the crosshair does not line up with the target's head.

Well I'm assuming you're referring to 1 of 2 things.

When scoped in, the crosshair disappears and you're left with the laser dot on the scope. (Can be enabled in advanced options.)

Or a custom crosshair. (The less likely option as this doesn't show up on sv_pure servers. Which is used in competitive. Which I'm assuming you're watching.)

EDIT:

I'm talking about the actual shot. When the player fires, the crosshair does not line up with the target's head.

Hit registration is weird.

But seriously, they're just pulling the trigger just as the crosshair moves over the victim's head. That's all. The crosshair just keeps moving.

That's what I thought. I was hoping it was some weird technique pros use to hit stuff.

Not a technique at all. They're just skilled enough to snap to a target and time the shot well.

Also, videos capture more than what we see. The human eyes can only notice up to around 50 FPS for video games, near 20 for movies because we see motion blur. So videos capture more than what we see and give us more frames, and it makes us seem like our crosshairs aren't even near the victim's head. The human eye is great, but only so limited.

(Who asked you get to technical?)

WELL, MAYBE I LIKE BEING TECHNICAL.

Frag videos are made using demos, either POV (Point-of-View) or STV (Source TV). Both of these are pretty unreliable when it comes to seeing the shots actually hit. The video shown below even shows off that some of the shots aren't always aimed right at the players. In the description, spadez (s0_stoned in the video) says it as well in the description. I think Powah's first scene shows this off pretty well.

Here let me put this straight no one hacks in this video, that head-shot at 2:26 their sniper killed his medic so he looks there and sees a tiny spec of him (720p) and head-shots him. Source TV demos don't know show accurate aiming so it looks like an aimbot but it isn't. Don't hate, appreciate .

The reason it looks like they arent hitting them directly is because they arent from your view. Only their view shows where they are actually hitting. For example, if you were to be watching a STV or spectating someone, their hit registration will be slightly to the left and I believe it is above as well.

I've got such a bad connection I can't kill people on eGO servers.
