BF2 had great mods which made the game a legend. Heck every battlefield game for PC had mod support, but this article made me not wanting to even play a Battlefield game again. The mod looks amazing.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/10/03/dice-hints-bans-color-correcting-battlefield-3-mo/

They have already banned people for it, but come on that is dumb. This mod would actually make me want to play BF3.

What are your thoughts?

After looking at that video I only see BF3 now color aspect wise as it looking like it is in a grey scale mode while this mod makes BF3 look more realistic.

i love how they ban for mods that dont give anyone an advantage but take months to fix a glitch that is their fault and easily remedied and people who exploited the hell out of it never got punished at all

But but but it looks so pretty...

The comments do make a good point which is that the way the mod is written may be similar to the way a cheat program works and PB may not be able to tell the difference between a harmless graphics fix and an aimbot resulting in a permanent ban.

I think that DICE should change to that color scheme so that it better and whatnot. I was very surprised on how this color scheme mod changed practically all of the colors in the game. lol

I have to agree with DICE here, the way the mod is written is similar to the way many exploits are written as well. While they should allow for mod development, they also cannot let it get out of hand and end up the way CS did with hackers everywhere.

I've got an idea. Why doesnt DICE just implement visual sliders like EVERY OTHER GAME OUT THERE.

Seriously. No contrast slider? Rediculous.

In regards to the mod, I understand both sides. I won't demonize DICE for their stance since it makes sense to me, and at the same time I don't see anything wrong with the mod.

Tone down the grass on Sharqi and it's perfect. Seriously, that grass is almost neon.

What he said. Modifying textures/sounds is one thing, but it sounds like this tool goes one or two steps further than that.

Seriously. No contrast slider? Rediculous.

I can't remember seeing a game with a contrast slider.

I think it's fine the way it is. With those bright textures I would think character textures would just pop right out.

The problem with this is that the color gradient isn't the only thing you can change by accessing your gamefiles. Through the same method as changing color gradient you also can change recoil rates, weapon damage, basically anything you want. THAT is why Dice is threatening bans to anyone who modifies their game files in this manner. They don't have a way to stop people from turning on the hacks.

i saw this last night and i have to say, i actually hate mods like this because its actually not realistic despite what people think. The colors are TOO vibrant, its almost cartoony. Colors in real life are not the bright and colorful especially on those maps that take place at dusk and recoloring everything to a super bright color just makes the game look bad, it kills the contrast. It reminds me of all those color mods for skyrim where people dont like the grayscale coloring to make skyrim look like a tundra and people want it to look like a mountain forest area from montana, it doesnt work or fit. Color mods just ruin the immersion into the worlds that these people put enormous effort into making and BF3's color scheme looks fine people are just complaining for the sake of complaining

This.

The mod is cool and all, and its interesting to see BF3 in more color, but at the same time, the colors are so vibrant and saturated that it actually looks gross. Like a woman who wears way too much make-up. A little goes a long way, but too much ruins everything.

Strange... I distinctly remember paying for Road to Rome and Secret Weapons for BF1942. Then I also remember paying for Special Forces and the "Booster packs" for BF2... Looking at my old Medal of Honor collection too, I see a whole buch of expansions(DLC) that were not free. It's almost as if this isn't new at all and that there was never a time when DLC was "always free" therefore that argument is tiring.

Aaand this. The only difference between the BF3 DLC and the expansions of old is 1. you don't have to go to the store to get them, 2. you don't have more discs to worry about, and 3. its slightly cheaper (but for slightly less content).

All the expansions for BF1942 and 2 were $20+ I'm pretty sure. Even more for Age of Empires expansions, Sims City expansions, etc. DLC is nothing new. However, the difference is the quality. The expansions of old were MUCH better than the CoD-style DLC that so many games crank out these days. BF3 expansions/DLC has much more content than most games' DLC/expansions do.

No they had a cover image where the color of the soldiers hands where changed to fit the colors that were moded.

I just want to say my opinion. BF3 in anyway possible is not realistic. I wont name them unless you want me to. Moding has always been on the PC and i mean ALWAYS. Just look at Doom and the crazy simpsons mod. Those graphics in the mod make that game more enjoyable to me to actually come back to playing bf3(even if it runs on origin which is almost a carbon copy of steam). I can see your points, but what Dice is doing is wrong. They half butt a game that no one wanted from the die hard BF players. All they wanted was BF2 with updated graphics. Instead we got origin, a singleplayer that was never needed looking back at all other BF games(not including BC2 because it was not true to the battlefield games), no mod support which is very dumb on their side seeing as how the other BF games had it. I think Dice has killed their own game because they want too much control which will never stand with the PC players out there. PC is known for its open endlessness. Just look at minecraft and the possibilities.

Then now you have their plan of keeping a BF/MoH game on the market. The BF series use to be amazing, now its just turned into Call of Duty. I mean really, premium? I remember when DLC was always free.

P.S these are just my thoughts, in anyway they are not intended to offend.

And I'm sure someone will say it, you can't argue that the expansions of the old days aren't DLC. If the medium had been around the way it is now they would most certainly have been sold as "DLC." Honestly additional content shouldn't be free. They have to spend more man-hours making it. I guess spending hours upon hours staring at code and playtesting and trying to make sure it works good for us isn't worth monetary repayment... We should just go ahead and stp paying everyone for any service they provide as they should provide it for free clearly.

Edit: As far as the actual topic. I kind of agree with DICE's decision based on how the changes are made. Maybe they'll see the want for something like this and add official options. Doubt it or if they did it would take an eternity for them to get around to it but maybe.

if you want to change the color just change the color saturation in your computer settings

To be honest Road to Rome and Secret weapons plus the BF2 stuff was all expansion sets and not DLC seeing as how Digital downloading was not around for those games and they far expanded past what DLC is seeing as how most are additional player skins. I still have all my Discs for each expansion and game.

The DLC comment was referring to my Dos days of Doom and wolfenstien, plus the side scroll-er of Duke Nukem.

The premium is just a copy of Call of duty's elite, and seriously technically all the BF3 expansions should be free seeing as how I should have waited and bought the Premium edition of BF3 which gives me all the DLC, the whole stock game and premium status. All for the price of 60 bucks, no more no less.

The whole point of this thread is Dice not letting us mod the game or let alone make mods. Some of the best games were mods, but then bought out. Just look at CSS, DODS, and even the TF2 games. They were all mods and valve bought them because they are amazing. Heck a lot of great games were mods made out of other games. The only reason BF2 was amazing is because of those things that were moded from it. It would have never have lasted as long if their were no mods. One of these days Dice is going to get whats coming to them. More mods will come for BF3. More ban hammers from them will follow. They will never control on what we can and can't mod out of BF3.
