A Simple Question

Do you care about our servers or our division?

There were a handful of eGO BF division members that were scrimming some other pubs. We just lost a server. Our BF3 servers are at the lowest ranks they've been in a long time, and they still sit empty.

Emery, Abstract, Tipton and I tried to fill normal conquest earlier (actually as I'm writing this, we are currently trying to fill it) and when I asked these scrimming division-mates if they would help, I got a simple "I don't play servers" from one, and no response from the others.

What? Sorry, this is nothing but frustrating, and actually quite angering. I now come back to the original question. Do you care about our servers or our division, or even eGO in general?

You all know I don't come onto the Battlefield forums much anymore...so it has to be something pretty special for me to post!

Well said Randy. It may be fun to scrim...but there won't be a division if you aren't able to keep the servers filled. Participate in events and enjoy yourselves....back in the old days, some of the most fun I ever had was during server-filling. It's actually quite enjoyable to get super-competitive with a handful of clanmates and dick around for a bit while working to get more people onto the server.

Server filling's important. There's nothing more to it. Having full servers is the basis for having events, having more recruits (and thus more people to play with), and keeping the division alive.

If you don't fill servers you won't get recruits.
If you don't get recruits you won't grow.
If you don't grow you will lose members over time.
If you lose members over time the division will be hung up.

Please do your best to fill servers! Use knife and pistol only more often with no vehicles to keep pubbers from getting owned by eGO and leaving. Just be smart!

I actually wanted to fill servers today but I can only play on unranked servers as my original account is unable to log onto any servers and I using a friends account to play. So can only scrim with that account until my original account is back.

Server filling is much more difficult then it used to be. Just several months ago we could get a few eGO members on a server and it would fill within a few rounds. Lately we can have 8-10 eGO guys on a server for 2+ hours and it never gets above half full, and remains largely empty. This can be incredibly frustrating for those players that put the time and effort in to fill, only to see the server fail in front of them. Why are the servers harder to fill, I don't know. It is true that there has been a decline in member activity, but to suggest that players simply don't care about the division is unjustified. Many of us have lives, jobs, and school outside of eGO so sometimes Battlefield is a luxury and we can't put as much time into it as we would like. Things have been getting harder lately, but accusations and harsh words won't solve our problems.

I'd have to largely agree with Cookie. I didn't immediately come when you asked me in a PM as I was quite busy at the time. However I did eventually jump on and played for a good 6 - 7 hours and it never got above 32 players for long before dropping back down below it. It's definitely a lot harder than it used to be. Spending 7 hours doing something to watch it immediately empty out shortly after you leave is quite disheartening.

Between that and the bad taste server filling has in a lot of people's mouths do to some people not knowing how to tone down the try hard syndrome I can understand why there are those who don't want to fill. I also understand where someone might have been coming from when they said they don't play servers. As personally I don't have as much fun with PUB matches as I used to. If it's not an event or GC I'd rather play a different game.

That said with these new changes I will try to play more. See what I can do to get them filled.

I was going to make this a separate thread but... well no sense in having multiple threads about server filling now is there...

As some might have noticed by the lack of an event announcement thread, I've kind of took it upon myself to put events on a short hiatus (short as in probably just the next week or two but we'll see). The reason I've done this is due to the decline in members on during event days. Partially I believe the reason for this is due to our servers being empty so why get on vent, right?

In absence of our usual events we should still get on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays around 8 - 9 Eastern (mostly the original event schedule days before my cutbacks due to lack of players) and get on our servers and try to get them filled.

Personally I won't expect full 6 man queue servers by any means but I think if we can get them halfway those 4 days a week, we will start to rebuild the playerbase we lost. (Then I can go back to being the prolific gamer of playing everything but Battlefield and not feel guilty about it :P.) Just kidding but seriously once we get that going again we should be able to get more people on vent via your guys recruiting (not my recruiting of course cause I'm a horrible person) which means more people for events thus making them worthwhile again (cause 15 people in a zombie event is far more fun and exciting then 5 to 6 people.)

To me halfway filled, at least 4 nights a week, is a more than reasonable goal. I think even after just a week of it we'll really see a difference.

On a side not, since I've kind of dropped the bomb of no real events for the next week or two and I'd hate leave you with no good news, there is talks about a return of the old ladder tourneys we used to do, so keep on the look out for that.

TLDR - Server Filling harder. Some reasons why people don't like filling bla bla bla. Events on short hiatus being temporarily replaced with server filling goals. Potential return of In-Clan Tourney in the near future.

i have to agree with cookie. the problem is just that some servers wont get over a half full server even though if a couple of eGO members stay on there for several hours.

another problem i see there is that these eGO members are demotivated at that point and also getting bored of a server if they stood on there for too long. but i think this is just a natural thing. i think all of us need to take a break from a game if youve played it for several hours straight.

another common thing happening is that a huge part of the eGO members wants to move to a different server if one is filled. of course this is a good thing but as we have said before not all of us should leave at the same time. when we have like 6 members (just eGO, not counting pubs) leaving the server at the end of a round it may just kill it again. i think the problem here is that we all enjoy playing together, especially while we are in vent, so we dont want to be "left behind" on a server.

as cookie said we have a life besides the games. i personally get maybe 3-4 hours at home on some days before i have to go sleep again. so i have around 2-3 hours sometimes in which i have to check forums, social networks, emails, contact with friends etc. when i dont see enough ppl in vent then, or notice on battlelog noone is on, i would rather play a different game in my left free time during the weekdays. another problem i personally have is that i live in europe so theres always at least 6 hours difference between most of the division and me.

but anyways this is all i can think of right now. i understand both sides and i think each side is understandable. and to answer the question: i do care about the servers and the division (otherwise i wouldnt be in it anymore), but its hard to keep up the effort when i cant seem to see much success after trying to fill a server.

K randy let me explain why I didnt want to play our server last night. I was pissed off from random things and really tired IRL.
I was only on for a couple hours because i went out last night(after i crashed killer thats why i randomly left, my comp crashed and i didnt want to turn it back on) so i would rather play scrims then fill servers

Then h9 doesnt play anything but TDM so he probs wouldnt want to fill
Killer is on an account that cant go into pub servers
Daskro wanted to scrim
1am_47 wanted to scrim

The two randoms 1am_47 and daskro both our friends who wanted to scrim with us not play pubs and i would rather play with them then fill a server
So you could have had 2 extra people to come help you fill a server 1 having to leave soon so what like 2 hours to fill a server, and like cookie said if our servers filled fast then I still would not love filling it but it would be much more motivating then what it is right now.

WILD K4RD

I am not sure how well you know the GC people on your team and what not but i was thinking what about like after battledays and black ops we ask them if they want to fill our servers with us, not sure if this would work but its an idea. Any thoughts?

Funny you should say that. I had just told shortstuf last night I was thinking about asking them after Battledays if they'd like to jump on our server and help us out a bit.

You missed out yo. Last night was supah productive/me venting.

One thing I would like to add since I did see this last night is that if you are playing in our servers you must be wearing your eGO tags. I know some of you switch from scrims and whatnot but please remember to change back. When filling and playing in our servers it looks a lot better when we have say 8 eGO members in there are opposed to 4 even though there really are 8.

As Wi1D said the ladder tournament should be coming back soon and also we are setting up a clan v clan scrim soon so

I understand all of this, as I have been away a lot due to IRL. The issue is not that, but rather the unwillingness of some to support the division. This is not aimed at anyone in particular, just something I have noticed recently.

I'd have to largely agree with Cookie. I didn't immediately come when you asked me in a PM as I was quite busy at the time.

That's fine, that's what I figured the case was, and I have no issue with that.

Like Cookie and Wild, I have no issue with that. IRL comes first and that's not the problem.

I will admit, I overreacted. I was unaware of Killer and Axeman's situations, so that changes things. However, the issue still stands

The extra one may have helped. We got up to about 8v8 when I had to leave.

The issue I had was with what was said. If you wear the eGO tag, it is your "duty" as a member of this organization to support it and its servers. I understand that you were frustrated IRL and just wanted to scrim, and that's fine, but instead of saying that, you told me you "don't play servers" which I understood as "I refuse to help fill our servers".

i try to play when i can, still new to the game and unfortunately only have the base game. so im stuck playing on only 1 server till i can get the premium. tried playing the other 2 even on a non addon map but alas it wont let me. with a kid and cut hours at work that might take time, hopefully there will be some winter sales. but will continue to play the 1 server i can untill then.

I am one of those who has less and less time to play recently due to RL and other gaming interests (GW2, and to a lesser extent, Pandas), so when I am in BF3 I look to get the most bang for my buck and look for fuller servers. Normally when I am playing our servers are dead empty and for my play time I don't want to spend it idling in a server by myself.

Being that I have been playing on several other servers (mostly hardcore, I love hardcore) could part of our empty servers be correlated with the lack in ability of sever players to self police (e.g. !forgive, !punish, !votekick)?

Many of the servers I play on which seem to fill quickly or remain full have these features so when admins are not online a few jerks can't ruin the experience for the entire server (they also run auto team balance and randomizing teams between rounds, but I believe our servers do that as well). I know our admins are very easy to reach in most cases/times, and I am not sure how well these features work on "Normal" servers. but i think it would be something to consider if it hasn't been already.

I would prefer playing on our servers and seeing them at least half full at most times of the day, they seem to do well at the beginning of an expansion, I am not exactly sure why they fall short after that while other servers remain strong. I hope we can find a resolution so we all have a common place to play again.

you forgot the guys who rather throw fairy dust in guild wars ;P

but in all seriousness, the battlefield div is slowly dying. please help us keep it alive

Do you care about our servers or our division?

What? Sorry, this is nothing but frustrating, and actually quite angering. I now come back to the original question. Do you care about our servers or our division, or even eGO in general?

I care, and have tried my share of helping, but I also have limited time in playing. I have maybe a couple hours after work before I have to start cooking. I come home from work, I want to play, not sit in a server for my two hours hoping the half a dozen guys who are on, might help get server started.....

I have also got burned out, sitting leaving computer idle for 4 to 5 hours at a time, trying to help get the server started, and come back and I'm still the only guy in the server, while everyone else is playing elsewhere!!!

Been helping get servers started since I got the game in Dec. evenings & weekends....( what's it take to get a server starter achievement?)

Awesome! And for that, we all thank you. This post was not intended to imply that if you aren't on 24/7 filling servers that you should leave. The entire reason I wrote this was to ask that question to each and every member of our division and get them thinking. If your answer is yes, then this post doesn't apply to you.

When I was a part of the division it was mainly killercankill, Vertago, Tipton and only a hand full of eG's and eGO's wanting to help fill the servers. I would spend 1-3 hours waiting on an eGO server by myself from people who either said they will show up later or they will be there in a second only to leave and play a different game and I go through vent and no one really responds to me when I did ask to get a server started.
