Hello!

I have recently returned, enlisting primarily into the DoD:S division, after a long break. I have heard about these realism events prior to my leaving, but am unsure of what they are. I got a brief explanation on the Anzio server, and was told it was a great event, but can someone tell me in detail, what exactly it is?

They are magical, funfilled events lead by Blue Stealth

With have two types of realism events:
One is a 5 week long campaign where two permanent teams are made and each Saturday the teams attack and defend the countries of Europe. We call this Realism Campaign. For the Campaign Two leaders for the Allies and Axis are selected, and these two poor souls are stuck with organizing squads, teams, and tactics to outsmart the other leader and their army. If like reading and want to know pretty much everything you need to know, Here: http://edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217440 That is the HQ for Campaign 8, here you'll see what is established for the campaigns such as real units that the two sides represent, who the leaders are and their 2nds and 3rds in command. And you'll see who the TAs are, which doesnt change (Unless they have to step down for personal reasons, or if they quit)

The other Realism event is regular realism. Realism had been around for awhile, but eGO realism was started by St0rmy and Featherfoot007 2-3 years ago now.
This is from the Realism Handbook by Sumac: http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194317
Non-tournament Realism
Regular realisms were the foundation for our realism campaign. At the beginning of the game all players line up. Two COs (Commanding Officers) are chosen by TAs to lead the Axis and Allied teams respectively. Each CO then picks an XO (Executive Officer) as their second in command. COs must then decide amongst themselves who will receive first pick of players and who will choose a team to start on. Teams are then chosen in a similar manner to dodge ball by having the COs alternating while they choose players for their team. Once the game starts, Allies attack the first round and then alternate. Halfway through the game team will automatically switch from Allies to Axis and vice versa. Players get the chance to play on both the Allied and Axis teams. NO MANUAL SWITCHING is required except at the beginning of the game when players are chosen for a team.

Regular Realism Basics:

Players lineup at the beginning of the game.
COs (Commanding Officers) volunteer to lead a team and are selected by TAs (Tournament Admins) to lead teams.
COs select XOs (Executive Officers) as their second in command.
COs alternate in selecting players for their team.
As soon as a player is chose for a team they should join their respective team.

Please be aware:

NO MANUAL TEAM SWITCHING is required except when teams are chosen at the start of the game.
Teams switch midway through the game so all players will play on the Allies and Axis sides.
All tournament rules apply

The most important thing though is how different the gameplay is from regular DoDS
-You only get one life per round, there is no respawning in combat!
-There are weapon restrictions: Unlimited Rifles, 4 Autos (Both Assault Class and Support Class are considered an auto), either 1 MG or 1 Sniper (Cant have both in the same round) and 1 rocket.
-Realistic Spots: You cant prone on stairs, or be standing on a skinny balcony rail that cant hold the weight of a Corgi Puppy.

Of course there are a lot more rules that Blue will explain when you attend the next realism! We just finished the 8th campaign, and will probably do regular realisms for the next 2-5 weeks (Blue knows for sure how long)

TL;DR:
Come to them on Saturdays, its a great way to meet people, we will go over the rules you need to know before we even start the event.

come! you will have fun! and you dont have to be good, or I would have never been allowed to play!

Excellent!
Special thanks to Dr. Compton for that awesome explanation!
You will definitely see me there, sounds awesome!
Where in Vent do you typically meet? Special event channel?

Yeah, about 30 minutes to an hour prior the channel will open up in the DoDS Area
You wanna get in early so you can get the PW, realism does fill up quick and it stays full pretty much.

But you should come onto vent anyways to talk to us and get to now everyone.

You missed campaign 8, but we will be having a regular realism night on Oct 27th at 8PM Eastern. Show up in ventrilo 10-15 minutes early, and look for the Realism night lobby within the DoDS channels. The regular realism events are first-come-first-serve, no sign-ups required.

There will be no realism event on the 20th, it is our traditional week off following the closing of a campaign.
