best game storylines

Mass Effect and Halo have amazing story lines I believe. I tend to enjoy the sci-fi style approach in games and books, which explains my love for those two games.

Mass Effect and Halo have amazing story lines.

Republic Commando was good as well, I love the entire fable series, the first Dragon Age had a good story to it. umm.... Witcher 2 had a very good storyline, albeit short (two different stories you can follow at least). Company of Heroes had a good story line for being a rts and assassin's creed has kept me entertained aswell. Ace combat games usually have good stories behind them, but the combat is why they are great.

The plot of Team Fortress 2 is great.

But seriously, Heavy Rain goes deep.

The Fallout series! I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas, and the amount of chaos or good you can cause and see to the end is amazing!

Hands down best storyline is Assassins creed.
Halo is also good too if you get halo legends.
I also like mass effect.

Call me old, but I loved the original C&C and Red Alert cutscenes/storylines. Following that, Assassin's Creed, last two Batman games, Half Life series, Halo, Jet Set Radio Future, Skyrim (Elder Scroll Series in general), Freelancer/Starlancer, Homeworld, World in Conflict, Diablo series, FEAR, Starcraft, Thief, Portal 1 + 2, Deadspace. Just a number of games that came to mind from reading "What games had best storylines..."

Really most games that focus on the story more then copy past multilayer usually has a good story. Kinda hard to just name a few when the list can go on for days.

Divided by system:

SNES:
Secret of Mana (My number 1 overall pick by the way)
Final Fantasy 3 (VI) (a very close 2nd)
Super Mario RPG

Playstation (1&2):
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy Tactics
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

Gamecube:
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (PS1 also)
Skies of Arcadia (also would be Dreamcast nominee)

GBA:
Fire Emblem Series

XBOX: Halo series

Current Gen (360, PS3, Wii):
Bioshock
Borderlands series
Assassin's Creed Series
Red Dead Redemption

PC:
Freelancer
Half-Life series
Star Wars Jedi Knight Series
Neverwinter Nights
Elder Scrolls Series

There's a lot, it's a tough choice. Even if Secret of Mana is my #1 pick, there are TONS of games with great stories out there, and I'm sure I forgot to name many.

I wouldn't say mass Effect has a good storyline, but it does have great characters. Dragon Age and Dragon Age II had a pretty good story too. I'm a huge fan of Kingdom Hearts and its lore, along with Batman Arkham Asylum/City

Favorite game story has to be the Metal Gear Solid Series. I've gone through the series at least 3 times and I still enjoy it every time.
p.s. twin snake was a bad game in my opinion.

i would have to say Half-life series has been a good one.. the most recent one i've really liked is Call of Duty Modern Warfare series,

Red Dead Redemption

Metal Gear Solid 3

Chrono Trigger

Mass Effect 2

Heavy Rain

Uncharted 2

Bioshock

Assassin's Creed II

Yeah I totally forgot about Red Dead Redemption, that had a great story line as well. Another action like Red Dead that had a great story line to it was Mafia 2, granted it was short, I was surprised by how deep the story was. The Brothers in Arms games (more specifically the most recent 2) have great in-depth stories to them. Back when I had my ps2, like around 2003 or something, Final Fantasy X and X-2, omg those game had me hooked, I only got through like %50 of X though, hah always got stuck on one boss

Red dead redemption.

Uncharted.

TES3: Morrowind.

Gears of War(I thought the story was great at least).

Mass Effect( Third one could've been so much better).

Halo(By far, especially the first one).

Assassin's creed.

The Metal Gear series, indubitably.
Confusing, you say?
NO IT IS NOT.
