The eGO Newsletter Team had a correspondent digging through the worn-torn rubble in the North African Village of Ingot. Portions of the journals of an American Sgt. named Jinn were discovered in the charred remains of an Allies base camp. Sadly, we have uncovered neither hide nor hair of Sgt. Jinn, who remains MIA. The salvaged parts of his persoanl journals follow:
Week 2
Colmar, Norway
Finally. Finally, I am able to prove my worth to my company. No longer will I be teased for being a fresh reinforcement, and I will be able to join my brothers in battle.
As we drove into this small town in Norway, it was a crisp cold night. But it was not silent. We could hear the exchange of gunfire immediately upon stepping foot off the truck. My squad received instructions to help reinforce the men near the bridge. Our goal was to not lose this bridge so that we could use it for moving supplies through the area.
My heart was pounding as the fight was coming near, and I was a little nervous at the thought of starting live combat. I guess my squad leader ?Beef? noticed my anxiety and calmed me down, saying ?Just look out across the bridge, if you see something move, breath steady, aim and squeeze your trigger.? No sooner had he made those statements, then we were engaged by the advancing Axis army. I did just what he told me, steadied my breathing, aimed, squeezed my trigger. One dead. Intently I stared down my rifle?s ironsights, searching for my next target. Squeezed the trigger. Another dead.
The Axis seemed focused and dead set on pushing past the bridge, but we held our ground. After what seemed like hours, the movement and the fire stopped. I was still looking down my rifle, waiting for my next target when a hand grabbed my shoulder. ?Kid, kid? as he shook me gently. ?They stopped pushing, we just got orders that we are going to have a counter attack.? I turn and look to see ?Anti?, one of the more intimidating members of my squad, I heard he had taken down 20 men with just his pistol and a knife.
?Beef? had just come back with the orders, our squad was to push the bridge area clearing any opposition to our forces who would be clearing out the houses and building. When it came time to push the attack, we went hard and fast, making sure not one nook or cranny was left un-searched, lest we be ambushed by hiding ?Krauts?.
I guess that they weren?t expecting a counter attack so soon after their push forward, because it wasn?t long before we got the all clear that the city was entirely ours. It seemed that our leader, ?Nuke?s? gamble had paid off and we were now celebrating a win in Norway!

Napoli, Italy
I guess we made an impression with our win at Colmar because we were hastily shipped off to try to take the town of Napoli, Italy. This town was even more enclosed than our last engagement and the Axis forces were hunkered down hard. They, certainly did not want to give up the city.
On our first attempt to seize Napoli, we were met with opposition scattered throughout the city. We had to search everywhere to make sure that there were none hiding waiting for their chance to take an unsuspecting victim to their doom. Eventually we hit a point where we could advance no more, due to a well placed machine gun. The Axis squad rallied behind their machine gun and began to push back our advance with a fierce counter-attack.
We were dead even with the exchanges and then they seemed to get a momentum surge as one side of our flank got cut off from the rest. But with some quick thinking and some strategic reinforcements brought in immediately after our commanders barked their orders, we were able to halt them on their push.
?Nuke? rallied us all up after our defense, stating that we had done a good job defending and told us the plan for our attack. So we began.
We pushed out into the open and attacked the barn where they had been holed up before. We attacked from all sides and made sure to leave none alive. We poured through the houses and buildings and cleared them out. Again, we hit the defense of the machine gun, but this time, we had a counter. ?Beef? with some quick thinking, was able to sneak around and attack it from its flank. Making quick work of their defenses.
But this was not the end. There were still more of the Germans hiding around the city, taking pot shots at us, killing a man here and there, and then evading our pursuit. This continued on and slowed us down long enough until Axis reinforcements arrived. At this point we were spread too thin, so ?Nuke? was forced to have us retreat from the city of Napoli.
Hope the Italians will forgive us for leaving the town in the Axis grasp for now.

Week 3
Kalt, Finland
Intelligence reports told of a camped-out harsh contingent of Axis soldiers in the city, with a lot of sharpshooter aces, including one slippery German nick-named ?Blue Stealth.? I?ve heard stories of how he had single-handedly halted an Allied advance using his stealth and ability to attack without a warning. A German scientist known to us only as ?Meg? had been in the process of developing heat seeking rockets called ?Taggers?. I didn?t put much thought into the rocket, but the sharpshooters were going to be a threat.
As we were waiting for orders, our command staff, ?Beef? and ?Nuke? went out to get supplies for our impending attack. The supplies consisted of reinforcements, including a much needed machine guns. However, they were attacked along the way and engaged in a tough fire-fight. Intelligence came out that some of the men on the Axis side of Kalt had been sent to help the group of men that were hitting our supplies. Thus orders came to ?Boyle,? who had been left in charge of the company, known for his cunning tactics and strategy, that we were to press the attack in spite of being undermanned and without supplies, planning on the enemy being divided.
So, ?Boyle? gathered the company together and gave out assignments. Before this though, he had called me and ?Beret,? who had been given his name for the hat he had won from a British commando in a wrestling match, telling us that we were in charge of our respective squads. My squad was to press the assault from the street while ?Boyle? and ?Beret? were striving to utilize the sewer systems to flank the Germans.
The attack began, my group pushed up to the bridge taking little losses, however after the bridge we started running into the hiding sharpshooters, using the buildings to pick us off on the street. I ordered my remaining men to find cover and we were going to press the attack from the wheelhouse. This is when a report came to me about ?Boyle? and ?Beret??s squads running into their own problems. They had found ?Meg?, wielding her heat-seeking rocket, blocking their advance. Eager to try to break the hold on the sewers so our men could flood out and take the city, I pushed the attack harder on the top. Then I saw it too ... the blasted ?Tagger? that I had been unconcerned about. As I ran back to cover, I saw it coming to bear, turning and hitting the wall behind me, making rubble out of it. A bit dazed and with ringing ears, I was helped to my feet by ?Lungbuster,? known for his ability to work harder, faster, and longer than anyone else in the regiment. ?You alright?? he asks. ?Yeah,? I muttered still in disbelief at that rocket. ?Boyle? has ordered us to fall back and take defensive positions, we are expecting a counter-attack.? I nodded and stumbled back, regaining my balance as we went.
I knew that we were about to have a tough fight, being out-manned and under supplied. We stationed as best we could, being sure to watch our flanks, expecting the main contingency to emerge from the bridge and wheelhouse.
There was a pause, as if the whole city was holding its breath waiting for the action to commence. Then it started, so many nades, hitting our every position, we had no choice but to fall back and reposition. After a valiant effort to stay and defend, we were ordered to retreat due to the casualties we had sustained. If only we would have had our supplies and our machine guns, that would have changed that battle. Well, we can?t win them all.

Ingot, North Africa
Ready to put us back into the saddle after our defeat at Kalt, we were stationed in the North African town of Ingot. Our intelligence reported the presence of the same group that had defeated us in Finland. This rallied the men in the fact that we were bitter and wanted payback for what we had suffered. We knew what to expect from them and had plans for their heat-seeking rockets.
We had even taken measures to counter their sharpshooters, acquiring a Swedish shooter named ?Bloodshot?, famed for taking out 40 Germans with a single magazine of ammo and his knife. The men were eager to hear the stories from this ace, but now was not the time. We were expecting the Germans at any moment.
Despite the huge boost to morale that ?Bloodshot? gave, the vacant stares told me that the men were disheartened by the absence of ?Beef? and ?Nuke?, who had been injured when fending off the Germans from our supplies near Kalt. My reflections were soon disrupted by the sound of incoming Germans.
My men and I were charged with protecting our right flank, keeping watch for any German that dared peep his head out of the structures. ?Anti? scored the first kill of that fight. ?Bloodshot? took the next three. I was amazed at his ability to almost predict where the enemy was going to pop up. I almost felt pity for the Germans: they had no idea of the firing squad that they were running into.
I heard the distinctive sounds of several K98s to my left, near the rail station. Knowing that ?Boyle? and ?Beret? were over there, I took a peek and saw several Germans closing in on their position. I fired several quick shots in succession, killing one and wounding another. This seemed to puzzle the other Germans around the area as they began to search for me. As one was intently looking down his barrel to where I had been, I smiled as I lined up my sights on his head and pulled the trigger. Make that another kill.
Soon we had the Germans retreating like the beaten dogs they are. News came from ?Boyle? that we were to pursue the Germans and drive them out of the city. So we did just that, avoiding the buildings where we believed the Nazis would have heavily fortified positions. Instead, we pushed the assault from the rails and aimed to flank them.
However, once again, the pesky Germans were waiting to finish us once and for all. One in particular, ?Chuck Norris?, who has taken the name of his newborn son to whom he vowed to never lose a fight, took down a number of my buddies. It seemed that for every advance we made against his position, he countered with his own cunning plan. Soon we were spread too thin, then all of a sudden, the Germans hit us hard on our right flank, managing to push us out of the city.
Who needs Africa anyways. My goal is Berlin! Instilling this in our men, we turned our attention towards Europe, chomping at the bit to get back into this work and liberate the world from tyranny.
