Graphics card help

I was thinking about getting a new GPU this Christmas, budget is <$300.
I was thinking a Radeon 7870 or 7850, based off benchmarks, there doesn't seem to be too big of a difference.
So my question is thus; how has some of your experiences with the new 7xxx series been? Do you have any recommendations?

I currently own a 7850, although I did order a 7970 which will be coming today and I will be retiring my 7860. The card runs every current title with great settings at great frames. However, if you are looking to play the top titles for years to come, make sure you have the ability to expand to crossfire. Although this card runs fine as a single GPU right now, for a more "future proof" build you will want the ability to crossfire in the future.

I'll hop in some games and see if I can't give you some practical results right now.
