lucky u i still got no power, only a backup generator that feeds the basic stuff in my house

same, no power here since monday. went and picked up a generator thursday, finally got some heat and hot water, some basic power for tv and computer . been helping nieghbors get there generators hooked up the last couple of days. just in time for another north eastern this week :facewall: .

sry to hear that, if u have gas heat u can either bypass youre main breaker by energizing a outlet circuit . this way you energize youre bus bar, where youre breakers are all connected to. make sure you have the main breaker off , just in case power is restored so u do not back feed the circuit and poss. youre generator. just get some weather proof wire and 2 male end plugs. this way you can plug into generator and a recepticle in youre house. worked on my house. unfortunitly it did not work on bolth of my nieghbors house. i had to hard wire their blowers.

there is a 4 square box mounted on mostly all furnices . it has a outlet and a switch. the switch controls the blower for the furnice. take the plate off and disconnect the neutral splice and remove the black wire that is hooked to the switch, that is coming from the furnice. in the back of the box there is a hole where there is a white black and green wire coming out. they control youre blower. take a piece of 12/2 romex and connect the colors to colors . then take a 20 amp male end plug and connect it to the other end of the romex. then you can plug that into a generator or if you are using non weather proof romex you can run a extension cord from the generator into youre home and plug it into it there, the romex. before you plug it in make sure youre connection is good at the furnice. once that is done plug it in and it will run youre furnice. most furnices run on a 15 amp breaker which is only a 110 volt circuit and it doesnt even use all that im sure. now unless you live in a huge house with multiple zones u might have a secound furnice in youre atic. im runnig a 6000 watt generator and i could run everything but my 220, 240appliances " electric stove, washer and so on "

...yeah, hope you have it back now, we got screwed too.... word of advice to you from Wirenut: don't run your pc while on a generator (numerous reasons, believe me).... highly rough on chipsets etc. ... later...

....I am a licensed E1 (master electrician to some states) in the state of CT., I see it all, and a lot of fried electronics too from genny folks.... exercise caution in future hook-ups.....
