Outstanding mod. I recommend you guys download:

"Team colored fire for the Flamethrower. Made to make telling apart enemy pyros in large fire fights easier. I have seen a lot of requests for it so here it is. It took me about five hours of modification until I got something I liked. If there is anything people would like improved, or changed, feel free to ask.
Installation: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\ACCOUNTNAME\team fortress 2
Thanks to Valve for the original textures and files I have used, and modified.
You may not use anything included in the file for anything other than stated unless i have given strict permission."

I would assume that that is technically a mod that grants an unfair advantage. It allows you to discern enemies from allies more easily.

Are there rules from Valve or eGO on what's allowed in terms of mods? Do things like this trigger SteamGuard or whatever anti-cheating measures they have? I know the eGO Minecraft division has a list on what's allowed.

I know back in the Quake 3 days you'd force all players to a huge brightly-colored model. It wasn't considered cheating since it's a built-in model, but it certainly gives an advantage over someone who didn't use such a setting.

I hate pyros.

Well, I don't think that it could trigger the automatic VAC mod detection, since it's just a texture. However, I've seen mod creators criticized for texture and sound mods that jeopardize the enemy team. The only way I could see this as fair would be if it were an item attachment or a misc, not a mod. Players should be allowed the choice whether their flame is visibly color coded to their team.

It's not much of an advantage. To be fair, everyone's running around with red/blue plastered all over them. This is simply a flame change to the team's colors.

A guy actually showed this to me this morning....
