YES. YES. YES!!!!

I have been waiting for this day for such a long time.

Already in finished the survey the day it came out.
So excited for this, windows is such a bad OS

games run better in opengl than they do in D3D anyway.
any games work on it yet?

This is fantastic... can't wait to dump windows... I have been using dual boot for years. The only reason I keep windows installed is to play CS:S... once this all goes linux able bye bye windows.

Why do you all say Windows is so bad? Or are you just bandwagoning? Or are you just posting to post?

Also, I use Ubuntu on my HTPC, and this gives me added functionality for it, totally pumped.

I'm installing ubuntu now. First time user, I'm semi-excited to try something new! I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I have not read all of the posts in this thread (nor do I have a desire to), but I would assume that the people talking about how "bad" windows is, are referring to Windows 8. Just about all of us know that Windows 7 was fine, however, with the direction that Microsoft is moving in to a more "apple type" control of their users and their products, Linux is a more free platform for game developers to work with. Those of us who do not wish to be controlled by Microsoft are calling them out for it.

Windows 8 has it's place. I feel that it belongs in the Tablet/Touchscreen market, rather than the full blown desktop market.

I've been using *nix since Fedora 4 and I'm avid fan of the open source community, but Windows does have it's place, and sadly, it's a large part of the market. Also, the whole "Microsoft Controlling Them," is kind of bogus. You don't have to use Windows 8. And, how much worse is it compared to Apple? Apple customers have come to be known as "The Sheep." I've been avidly using Windows since 95 came out and I don't consider myself as being controlled.

There's some things that could use improvement, but I'll take Microsoft anyday.

Personally I enjoy using linux, it seems to be more focused on being a Desktop OS; windows on the other hand, is trying to develop a user interface which is hindering between tablet and desktop. I want to use a interface that is clear about what it's trying to achieve. I am glad to see Valve introducing steam to the limited linux gaming market; this will only bring good things to the fast growing OS.

I'm glad theyre investing into Steam for Linux. Linux is a great platform (if theres drivers for all your peripherals)... Wireless especially, some chipsets just have really crappy drivers.
