Lest We Forget

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Being the forum active serviceman (Among a few others), I think it's time I start to push others to remember the significance of the 11th of November. A date once celebrated as the end of the "war to end all wars" we now remember those who served in World War One and bow our heads to honour the fallen.

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh of November 1918, the artillery of the front lines withdrew their last shells. 9,911,000 had fallen in this war to serve their country. Australia, Russia, England, France, America, Romania, Japan, Serbia, Belgium and Greece made up the allied Powers. Germany, Austria, Turkey and Bulgaria formed the Axis powers. All fought with a great sense of gallantry and proved to be a great adversary to those they fought against.

I urge all forum members to reflect over a minutes silence on the eleventh Hour of November 11th, and remember the sacrifice of veterans and active servicemen alike.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

I fully appreciate our veterans, although I don't appreciate the reasons why we have them. I wholeheartedly thank them for their service at defending my and others' liberties, even when the deployment reasons are exceedingly grey. To those who have made the extreme and or final sacrifice there are words not enough to even begin to make an apt description. Thankyou one and all.

I appreciate their service during WW1 at 11th of November.
I'm also doing a remembrance parade for our school to remember those people who have fought bravely during that war.

I still shed a tear when I think of our guys dying for us, in the past and the present. They gave up so much for us. Sorry guys there is so much I would like to say but I cant.

I love that poem. I have sang a choral version of it before and it is absolute beautiful. My Great-Grander father served in ww1. We thank all our veterans for their service.

I wish my school was more focused on honoring vets than having a "Anti-Bully Week". Good post Jay. Always love poetry.
