Upgrade sugestions

Gonna have some monies coming in towards the end of november-ish. Looking to get an upgrade for my Machine.

Current MB/CPU:: MSI 870-g45 MB with AMD Phenom II quad core
-- Looking to get an i5 or i7 With a MB that can support up to 16gb memory.

Current GPU:: Nvidia 460GTX (About 2 years old now)
-- Would like something more modern with a bit of power. Think Borderlands 2 Maxed out

Ill also be getting a 1tb Hard-drive and a 50gb SSD for the os, and a 700watt corsair PSU.

Would love to keep it under $400-$500

That does not work out money wise unfortunately. You will definitely have to extend your budget.

which already puts you over $300. For power supply, a 750W would really only be necessary if you see yourself going sli or crossfire in the future with some of the more expensive cards. If you are sticking with a single gpu, then a 550W would be more than enough. That alone will add another $50-80 depending on the size of the psu.

A 1tb hdd will be a good $70-80. And a small hdd that is 64gb will put you back $40-50.

Then if you want a gpu that is going to be a useful upgrade over the gtx 460, you are looking at another $200+.

So basically, with a budget that low, you are not going to be able to get everything you want. Additionally, with smaller hdds, deals are usually not as good. I got a 120gb hyperx 3k for $60 a month back. These larger drives are nice as they allow you to put some programs and games on there and they are also faster.

Just some things to consider.

Hey Ragman, ill barely be hitting that price range when it comes to upgrade my cpu/mobo/memory. Im gonna be doin an i5 build w/ 8gb of memory. I would highly suggest waiting for either more $$ or possibly find ya a better deal. Either that or dont go for that much of an upgrade right now.

Yep. Learned that after I got off working the weekend. Looks like i'll just be getting an i7/mobo combo and a 1tb hard drive for now. Already have the 16b memory, by the way, and illl stick with the 460GTX.

This upgrade is essential for me right now, As the classes I'll be taking require a Fairly powerfull PC to run the programs (Video Editing [after effects], Maya Animation, and Zbrush)

Do you by any chance have a microcenter near you? That would allow you to get a great deal on a combo!

I see there is one located in Detroit/Madison Heights. Hopefully that is within reasonable driving distance.

They have the 3770k for $280. If you buy the gigabyte ga-z77x-ud3h, you can get it for $95. Then you just have to add on some tax and you are good to go. Great deals they offer for much cheaper than anyone else. Recently was able to pickup a 3570k+ud3h in Atlanta at one.

Wow. Called them up and They can get me an i7/mobo bundle for around $350 IF I pick it up at the store (in-store items only). Otherwise it would be regular priced, around $425. Might just have to do that then.

Edit: Ugh.. 2 hour drive though.

Both ways? If so, then BF might provide a decent deal that avoids you wasting your time unless you need it ASAP.

Appears the price dropped to $230 for the 3770k...amazing deal. As a result, appears to be OOS at your store which is unfortunate.
