Newsletter November Newsletter

[Quaffer]

With the ringing of "Trick or Treat" in our ears, sweet candies and costumes behind us, we look forward to an exciting month of November as Christmas is just around the corner. What is in store for us this month you ask? Thanksgiving, Black Friday sales, basketball games, football games... oh and the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. November is typically a calm month with yellow and orange leaves laying around, cold wind blowing and soft white snow starting to fall.

Although it may seem like a calm month, November is rather an exciting month for anyone who is a sports fan, athlete, or a gamer. It is also a time for families to reunite and enjoy the company of one another. For sports fans, you can expect exciting NBA games as the season kicks off or continue to enjoy that hard hitting NFL action. It's also time for athletes to compete. All those hard workouts in the gym and on the field will pay off as they battle under the bright lights, making those "swish" sounds or hitting that GOAL that causes a thunderous clamor from the crowd. And let's not forget about us gamers. We can finally get some time off during Thanksgiving to enjoy the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. If you're not a Call of Duty fan don't worry, you can still find great deals during Black Friday Sales. So find a new game, cozy up on your favorite chair and enjoy every minute of it.

And remember, make sure you take time to enjoy the upcoming holiday seasons before it all ends. As always, don't forget to stay active in eGO servers, on the website and in Ventrilo.

And especially don't forget to read eGO's monthly Newsletters.

Meet the Leadership

By SkylineGTR

For this months Meet the Leadership, I decided to take a sneak peak at the Personal Service Center (PSC) member known as CopperAle.

SKylineGTR: What exactly made you interested in becoming a member of the PSC team?

CopperAle: A couple different things. I truly like helping and welcoming people into our community. Also, the person who had recruited me into eGO was a PSC member, so from talking to him I slowly became introduced to what the PSC was all about. When I made eG, I took a leap and sent in my application. The rest is history. The fact that I don't mind paperwork helped a lot, too.

Q: Could you please describe your moments thus far in the division?

A: Oh, my moments span years and run the gamut from exhilarating to wanting to hide my head under a rock. I have had my share of "INSERT NAME HERE" welcome posts (you PSC guys know what I'm talking about) and I may not always be up on the latest slang. The best moment for me, though, was when I was asked to return to an advisor role in the PSC. Well, being asked may not be the best word, it was more like a two minute rant by Dead Tom in an angry Scottish accent followed by him telling me to get off my butt and get to work.

Q: What are some of the funniest applications you have processed?

A: This question makes no sense. Processing applications is serious business, there is no humor is the PSC.

Q: How's life been treating you this year? The year ending well for you I hope?

A: It has been a good year, one that I can't complain about. I got to see my two youngest boys turn 1 years old, my wife and I celebrated our 12th year of marriage and I was able to return to eGO after some time off.

Q: Favorite hobbies to do on rainy days? Sunny days?

A: You mean this isn't a hobby? I guess that explains the long hours. Well it's a good thing I have been running then. It's something I can do rain or shine and I love pushing myself to improve my 5k time. In the spring, I will be running the Rock-N-Roll Half-Marathon in D.C., my longest race yet.

Q: If I gave you three apples and two bananas, could you please tell me where the banana came from?

A: Don't know, don't care. I can tell you where they will be going though; tossed over my shoulder and left to rot on the ground. I can't stand bananas I don't like the texture, the taste, nor the smell.

Q: Any plans for the Thanksgiving my good man?

A: Family, turkey, and football. Is there any other way to spend the day?

Q: Have you ever done something you shouldn't have just because your friends egged you on to doing it? If so, what was it?

A: I must admit that on more than one occasion during my years I have given into the evil that is peer pressure. However, since I have not yet researched the statute of limitations on these events, they will go unmentioned.

Q: Who is your favorite historical figure and why?

A: William I, otherwise known as William the Conqueror. Because when, after a thousand years, people still refer to you as "The Conqueror" you know you left your mark on the world. And lets face it, it's a heck of a lot better name than Edward the Confessor.

Q: Anything else you would like to share with the eGO community, maybe even the PSC team in general?

A: Roses are red,
my name is not Dave.
This poem makes no sense,
microwave.

Media Team

By DoomTree

Clan Wide Interest: The Media Team

Hello EdgeGamers. Do you have a knack for creativity? Do you have an idea that could help advertise eGO? You should consider joining eGO's Media Team. The Media Team promotes eGO mostly through the use of video productions. If you have an idea for a video that you would like seen made, Media Team members can suggest them and if they are popular ideas, they could be produced.

Here is a short Q&A with the Media Team leader, Dead Tom, regarding the Media Team:

DoomTree: What does the Media Team do?

Dead Tom: The Media Team is responsible for publishing media that highlights and showcases the eGO community, events, and our members. Most of our releases are in the form of videos.

Q: Where can we view the Media Team's past productions?

A: All our videos are posted to the EdgeGamers Youtube channel that can be found here.

Q: How can someone join the Media Team?

A: If you are interested in joining the Media Team, simply PM Dead Tom.

Q: Any future productions that you know of?

A: We are currently producing a new eGO Promo video. In addition, we have many other purposed projects that we are looking forward to completing soon.

*Special Thanks to Dead Tom for taking the time to meet with me.

Battlefield

By SkylineGTR

After having a little bit of a slump a few months ago, the BF Division is doing everything they can to rebuild the division to what it was and what it should be. Leadership is not letting this little "boo-boo" affect them and will make sure the division reaches new heights in the coming months and into the New Year.

As you may know, Leftenent has stepped down as the division's Council member. But do not fret, eGO members, 2slow has graciously stepped into the position. We are more than sure 2slow will be capable of handling anything thrown his way.

Furthermore, Leadership would like to announce some server changes:

• The previous TeamDeath Match server (TDM) has now been replaced by an all modes/map server.
• 32 slot 24/7 Hardcore Bazare, Seine, Metro map has been dropped from the listings.
• Currently, only two 64 slot servers are up: "Metro" and the "All modes/maps" server.

These server changes were based on the best interest of the division and are not set in stone; changes to the servers may continue to occur.

NOTES:

If you are interested in recruiting or would like to learn how to, make sure to attend recruitment drives hosted by the division starting this month (November) and continuing on. Weekly goals for recruiting will be posted by KILLERCANKILL in the BF forums. Keeping up to date with this information will help to further support your division.

Event addicts please be aware that the weekly event program has been placed on hold. Events will be scheduled again starting mid-November and will be posted in the forums.

Thanks to BF Division Leader VeRtAg0 for taking the time to contribute the information above.

Counter-Strike

By DoomTree

Greetings Pilgrims! Drop your paras and M4s for a moment and read the Counter-Strike November Newsletter article.

Are you bored with regular Counter-Strike gameplay yet? Well eGO has a fix for that. The CS Division recently launched two additional servers that provides CS players with new game modes to play. For Source players, the CS Division added a 24/7 Dust2 Deatchmatch Server [IP: 184.173.227.126:27015]. For Global Offensive (GO) players, the CS Division added a Gun Game Server which features 40+ maps and is eGO's first CS:GO gun game server [IP: 174.36.42.207:27016]. So what are you waiting for?

The eGO CS Division would like to welcome Ric and spark into the CS Advisors' echelon. They have helped the CS Division in many ways so be sure to send them a congratulations on their promotions.

Congratulations are also in order for Cryptex, who received eGO's Medal of Honor in October. This is one of the highest awards an eGO member can receive. Thank you for your contributions, Cryptex.

eGO's first ever Counter-Strike:Global Offensive 1 v 1 tournament was also held in October. The tournament began with 45 players who were all eager to win the ultimate prize: a $200 Visa(R) Gift Card. The weekend was marked with bloodshed, sweat, and tears as those who fell were eliminated. When the long ordeal was over, only three players emerged victorious.

1st Prize and winner of the $200 Visa Gift Card, Custom eGO Zazzle Gear, and One Month Dedicated Supporter is: InnoVation

2nd Prize and winner of Borderlands 2, Custom eGO Zazzle Gear, and One Month Dedicated Supporter is: TikeraaQ

3rd Prize and winner of Custom eGO Zazzle Gear and One Month Dedicated Supporter is: kami

Congratulations to those who won, and thank you to those who participated.

Finally, is anyone looking to spice up their CS:Source main splash screen? Check out this custom eGO CS main menu skin made by our very own fps. You can find and download the file here. Check out the ones for TF2 and DoD as well.

Day of Defeat

By DoomTree

Attention soldiers! Report in for the Day of Defeat (DoD) November Newsletter.

The bloody month-long Realism 8 Campaign came to an end this past month. Many soldiers were killed and the war was indeed devastating. In the end, though, the Allies emerged victorious! Congratulations to the Allied team for their victory and thank you to everyone who participated in the Realism 8 Campaign. Although the Realism Campaign is over, regular Realism events will be held periodically in the Events Server. Be sure to check the Event Calendar for details.

DoD players recently took to the battlefield during the DoD Halloween Scrim Tournament. The competition was fierce as teams competed for the prize of a Steam game of their choice, courtesy of Chuck Norris. After the post-battle dust had cleared, only one team was left standing. Congratulations to Team 4 led by Meg's A Tagger and her team members, MiniNayNay, <anti>, Boyle, BIGBAS, Moist Towelette, Immortal Technique, Silent Ghost and kYuKi.

It is sad to report that C-WHiT has decided to step down from the DoD Council and will be greatly missed. The DoD Division would like to thank C-WHiT for his dedication and leadership in the DoD community and wish him luck.

To fill the Council position that C-WHiT has left behind, the DoD division would like to congratulate and welcome Lungbuster4417 into the Council ranks. Be sure to congratulate him yourself!

Finally, Blue Stealth is the latest recipient of the DoD Division’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor. His commitment and dedication to the eGO DoD Division for the past four years has helped make the division what it is today. Congratulations Blue Stealth.

Now fall out soldiers! Have a great Thanksgiving.

E v e

By Quaffer

An entire universe of information regarding EVE online is available simply by visiting their website.

For example, at the One Universe tab you will learn that:
The number of Known Star Systems is 5,431, the number of Empire Systems is 1,907, and the estimated number of Wormhole Space Systems is 2,498.

You can also find a rotating starmap with hot points that will tell you about specific systems.

There are links to the Amarr Empire, the Caldari State, the Gallente Federation, and the Minmatar Republic. Each of these is laid out with a different take on society. Surely everyone can find something that appeals to them.

On the spaceship tab, you can view the specs of different ships including 3D views that will rotate or freeze the ship in place and can be re-oriented or panned for your perusal.

The Science and Technology tab will brief you on Research and Invention including the three tech levels you will encounter.

We encourage you to make use of this site and explore the universe of EVE.

Minecraft

By wewo

I had the good fortune to meet up with Russo, the newest Advisor in the Minecraft Division. This is what he had to say:

wewo: Hi Russo, how's it going?

Russo: Hey wewo, I'm doing great. Thanks for letting me be in the Newsletter.

Q: When and how did did you join eGO?

A: I joined eGO back in late August of last year, when my friend, Beef915, introduced me to DoD:S. I joined immediately after.

Q: Why did you leave the DoD Division?

A: I left DoD primarily because I started playing Op:X games very often, especially the new Star Wars MMO. After Op:X, I went to Strategy after frequently playing on the Minecraft. As you know, Minecraft then became its own division.

Q: When were you promoted to Advisor?

A: I was promoted on 9-11-12. A very odd date to be promoted if you ask me.

Q: What are your responsibilities?

A: As an MC Advisor, I make sure the server runs smoothly. More specifically, I oversee the creative team on our server to ensure that we're doing great things.

Q: For those of us who have never played Minecraft before, can you describe what we will experience if we decide to give it a try?

A: Minecraft is a game that can appeal to everyone, whether they like building amazing things, surviving, or just hanging out with friends and playing events. We have tons to do on the server.

Q: What is the deal with a Minecraft Mayor? Who is the present one and what does he/she do?

A: That would be the Gamma Town Mayor. Gamma town is the survival world spawn town. The Mayor is responsible for a handful of things:

• Ensuring people are building on their lots; If they aren't, they will be posted for eviction and given a handful of days to build or else be booted.
• Instructing the Creative Team on how to improve the town area (lamp posts, roads, landscape).
• Posting building themes for holidays, special events, etc.
• Making sure the town is intact (no griefs).

Q: What else is happening in the Minecraft Division? Any events? Promotions? Recruitment drives?

A: The MC division has daily events which reward players with tokens that they can used to buy more rare items. We are constantly rewarding mature, active, and helpful players within the division with promotions. As for recruiting drives, we just finished one up and have more in store for the Holidays. Stay tuned.

Q: On a more personal note, were you affected by Hurricane Sandy?

A: As a matter of fact I was. Starting Monday, October 29 I lost power until that Thursday; it was a cold and dark week. Hopefully we can convince BGE (our local power company) to invest in underground power lines.

Q: Can we look forward to seeing you on any of the DOD servers?

A: Whenever I have free time or have a certain urge to play DoD, yes, I mainly show up during events or realism campaigns which I very much enjoy.

Q: Any information about your real life that you would like to share with us? Such as where you live, how old you are, are you a student/working, married, etc.

A: I am currently living in Maryland and studying to get into college. Junior Year of High school, to be exact. I am 16 years old so marriage isn't on my mind at the moment!

Q: Smart, anything you would like to add?

A: Just if you have Minecraft, come support eGO on our server. The IP, Rules, Commands and other useful information can be found here. Also, the Creative Team is accepting everyone who wants to do great things in building. We are currently starting an adventure map. Come Join Us!

Q: Thanks Russo, as always it was great chatting with you.

Team Fortress 2

By DoomTree

Man the minigun and get that sentry gun up! It’s time for the November Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Newsletter.

The month of October brought its bag of tricks and themes for the Team Fortress 2 division, most notably, Halloween. To celebrate, the division added a new 24/7 Halloween server (IP: 67.228.175.240:27015) which hosted the Team Fortress Haunted Halloween Special. The Special allowed players to unlock Halloween themed hats and play the new 'King of the Hill' map titled 'Ghost Fort'. Ghost Fort was featured on eGO's 24/7 Halloween Server along with maps from previous years.

The TF2 Competitive Teams were hard at work this past month with much success. The eGO 6v6 E-Sports Entertainment Association (ESEA) team competed in the ESEA League’s playoffs. The team began in the seventh seed and finished in 3rd place, out of a total 39 teams. The ESEA playoffs were double elimination matches, and unfortunately the eGO team was knocked out in the semi-final round. The members of the TF2 6v6 ESEA team are Wilson!!, Scholar, Kammy, JOE, Clandestine, and Wulfy. Be sure and give these fine members a congratulations on their job well done!

Now … I believe that medic over there is a Spy! Have a great Thanksgiving.
