I've been having this issue since August.. i've brought it to a local computer store, RMA'd my videocard, reformatted my harddrive, and a list of other things. Can you help me do some detective work on what the solution to this issue is?

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/f...umreponse=0&quote_only=0&new=0&nojs=0#t241675

I've done everything up to buying a new PSU, i'd rather now blow $100 on something that might not even be the problem..

Here's each individual part;

DVD Writer: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5083568

Hard Drive: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=744348

Video Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2546187

RAM: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=40739

MotherBoard: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=667675

Processor: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1239961

PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276567

Specifically, could you look to see if it could be the PSU, i'm hearing that it's not putting out enough, which makes sense, because it only crashes when i'm in a 3D game, something that requires my videocard to kick in gear, which requires more power.

But with that note, the game runs fine, and can run fine for HOURS, then randomly freeze up and crash.. If the powersupply wasn't pumping enough power out, then how did it run the game at all? Or.. does it crash when it fluctuates between enough power, and just below not enough power?

PS: Heres the list of the hardware changes

Video Card: RMA'D, installed duplicate
Power Supply: New Powersupply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021)

I totally agree with the guys @ Tomshardware.com bout the psu issue. If the psu doesnt give enough "proper" electricity to the video card, then thatll reak havok on your ability to performance in the gaming dept. Also ive never even gone after Ultra. Their psu's just look so freakin cheap in the 1st place (im so glad I was right on that). Also (no offense to their site), but dont use Tigerdirect.com (unless you enjoy spending the extra $$ for the s&h. Most of the stuff on Newegg.com comes with free s&h, which means that it saves the consumer $$. Also Newegg.com is the only place I know where they desire feedback from the community so that other people can get an idea of what other people are getting in the future & whether or not to actually buy it. Fellow geeks always post feedback bout their experience with the product that they buy so that they can either warm future customers bout the issues with whatever they buy or they can feel free to brag bout how the product dominates their world.

Now onto more serious things. The following is the psu that I would start out with (good news is that its within the same price range as the 1 you purchased, but has far better feedback): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017
Now if you're willing to pay up to $100, then id go this route: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021
^You're getting especially lucky that the above item is on their Ironegg deal. Im gonna sum up the whole "Ironegg" idea (unless you really wanna read it for yourself); just states that all their products that they put that guarantee on will come with free s&h & if you have any issues with it, just feel free to send it back to em, no hassles.

I hope this info helps. Gotta say tho, kinda feel bad that this Corsair is on such a great deal. However I own his 650w cousin, so im still a happy camper. Also the Corsair comes with 2 more year warranty. Thats 1 of the big things I look into. Also make sure that you always search for psu's that come with ATX 12V / EPS 12V, not to mention that you always want to try & get an active PFC (power factor correction). Active PFC means that you wont have to worry bout performance issues when it comes to gaming.

Overall, the choice is yours. Choose wisely, young lad (I really dunno how old u r, just felt like saying that).

Agree, Just like to add my 2 cents, If you ever plan on using crossfire/sli, I would go with the CORSAIR more power is always better when dealing with psu's, It will run at a lower Draw so there efficiency will be higher. I had the money when I upgraded my psu and use a CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200, according to http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power I need 972w.... I run 2 old school Amd 4870 x2's in Crossfire. The reason I upgrade is I was using some RocketFish 1000w I got from ebay for $40, Guess what you get what you paid for.... was having the same issue as you, No one can know 100% if its that but since they didn't check the psu that's all that's left, Well they can use a power supply tester but that wont put a load on the psu.

Ok a little bit more then 2 cents :P

With the info you gave I used http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power and they say you need 542W not knowing if you OC or what fans and cooling you use, I did the math and your Gpu on full load needs 256W/21.3A That leaves 284.4/23.7A for the rest of your system.... Really starting to sound like your current Psu with its low 45A 12v rail is not enough. The CORSAIR has 62A 12v rail. Your CPU is 95w Motherboard's can use 150w thats 245w already. Now lets throw a wrench into it, No power supply is 100% effective the CORSAIR Gold 80 is 82% max so 82% of 750 = 615w, Your Psu's 750w@78% = 540w its 45A 12v rail with its 78% = 421.2w. I think that should answer the issue at hand your psu cant hack it, In my honest opinion.

Power Requirements of your gpu http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_hd_7850_and_7870_review,7.html

What does everyone else think about the 750 he recommended, foes everyone agree it'd be enough?

The corsair one is also on sale right now for 84 + $25 mail in rebate.

Corsair makes an amazing power supply, if you really think that's the issue, that'd be a good pick up right now.

In terms of the issue, I doubt that wattage is causing your problem, even if you take into account a 75% (lower than listed) efficiency that would put your current PSU at about a 560W maximum output. The 7850 (which is your biggest source of power usage) is actually pretty power friendly, running at load from around 200-290W.

In most cases, you're not going to be running your video card at 100% load, and even if you were, given the rest of your system setup, you're still not going to be maxing out your wattage, so I wouldn't be as concerned about whether or not a power supply would be "enough," any decent power supply probably even as low as 600W would work for your computer.

More likely would be that the ultra powersupply has a single rail that's not able to support the amperage or it was rather shoddily made and you're getting some sort of overvoltage or overheating that's cutting power inappropriately.

But we all agree that it's probably the powersupply, and this new one will fix my error

If you lived near me, then I wouldnt mind bringing over my psu to let you test it. Overall, theres a high probability that the psu is indeed the main issue. Therefore, I highly suggest that you order the psu while its still on sale.

With a display driver error, my first thought would always be to go to your video card drivers, directX, operating system or video card as the source of the problem, but it sounds like you went through all of those items pretty thoroughly.

The only other things I can think of offhand would be,

1. Your hard drive is failing, which is causing your drivers to become corrupted. But given that your hard (based on the model) is relatively new and it doesn't sound like you're experiencing other symptoms, this probably isn't the case. Also the fact that it sometimes runs for long periods of time without problems and reformatting didn't help, indicate something other than a hard drive failure.

2. Your computer case has poor airflow - if you're using an older case with no fans or your video card is smashed up against other components that might be blocking airflow, an overheating problem could be causing the issue. However, the 7850 tends to run relatively cool and if you have a decent case, this is most likely not the case...pun intended.

So, given that, and the fact that you are using a somewhat off brand PSU, that really seems like it would be the most likely cause. In any case, you can check around from the merchants and see what their return policy would be and if you get the PSU in there and it's still not working you may be able to buy from a retailer that would allow you to return everything.

Hey dude, im not sure if youve ordered ur replacement psu, but just found this on sale. Now mind you that its pretty much brand new (only 4 people have purchased it). Anyways feel free to take a look, but the deal is only for the remainder of the day: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153167

Make sure to use the promo code in order to get the 20% off. Just like the Corsair, it comes with a 5 year warranty & both are real top-notch psu's. Only 1 guy gave it 4 eggs cause he complained bout it not being modular. However, in your case, that wouldnt phase ya since what you really need is active pfc. I hope this will help ya some.

Tried it, and guess what? IT STILL CRASHES.. i'm about to cry.. i've tried everything x_x I've put so much money into this computer for it to not work with me..

Ahh man sorry to hear that. same crash or blue screen? any errors? After you reply I am about to ask if you would mine using TeamViewer so I can remote Access your pc

No BSOD, only error is display driver AMD has stopped responding but has recovered. Im willing to do anything at this moment.... ill download teamviewer, but im not surw what that will do, as it tskes hours to replucate

I'm willing to give a $50 gift card (or steam games equivalent) to the person who can fix this once and for all.

you pc is still under warranty? and they said they replaced the gpu?

I'm coming into this thread late and I've tried to catch up on what I can for the little time I do have today but I would like to offer some help. At this point I know you're willing to try anything so I would recommend going through each piece of hardware installed in your machine and confirm everything is seated properly. The next step I would perform is to check every manufacturer's website for any newer drivers, most importantly your motherboard chipset driver. You might have already done this since you recently reinstalled your OS but I want to make sure I mention it in case you didn't do this. Also check your device manager and see if there are missing drivers or any conflicts within that screen. Next I would make sure that all of the computer temperatures are within normal operating thresholds. The last item to do is to strip the computer down to what the minimum hardware and peripheral devices necessary to just play the games causing this crash. So unplug your extra USB devices, etc. If you are running multiple video cards pull one out, and if you have on board video (DVI/VGA port on motherboard I/O plate) try using that port and pull the existing video card(s) out. See if you can get it to crash using onboard video. Obviously you'll need the motherboard drivers installed for the video to work (I hope you didn't skip any drivers). The idea here is to run on the bare minimum and slowly add items one at a time until you get the crash. It is possible to have other devices such as a cell phone to your computer or ipod and have those devices conflict with other software running and have crashes. I know this is hard to deal with when you just want something you've paid for to just work as expected but have patience and we'll try to get you fixed up. Report back with your findings when it is convenient for you and I'll do my best to check back for updates when I can.

Checklist:
1. Confirm all hardware is seated properly and monitor cable is securely fastened.
2. Confirm all drivers for all hardware is up to date. (especially mobo chipset driver) Check device manager, are there any missing drivers or conflicts?
3. Confirm no hardware is overheating.
4. Last option to perform is to strip the machine down to the bare minimum hardware and peripheral devices necessary to play your game or whatever would trigger the event to happen again.

Maverick might have solved the issue, still testing though. We're trying the new beta driver' seems to be holding. No other drivers helped.

I hope it holds, hehe and after 1000s of questions spanning 2 days on vent it better :P , shucks looks like you wont be getting a phone call from me walking you through how to clean the pins on your gpu and memory (If Needed) and making sure there seated ;)
