Any of you running TF2 on Windows 8? I tried joining a server tonight to help an eG in need and my ping was aweful.

Now, it could be that my internet was being all wonky, but it shouldn't be the case as I am on cable. I will not say it's completely impossible.

The only thing about my laptop that has changed is the OS. Anyone else having issues running TF2 on Windows 8?

I myself do not have Windows 8 but I know some people who do and when they don't get on they don't have a problem.

I have (release preview) and I've not noticed a difference, it's still just the usual rubbish ping I get for being in the UK >.>

I figured it was something to do with my internet. Although, I wasn't going to be surprised if it had something to do with 8.

I've had the official release of Windows 8 Pro since the summer and I've had no problems with TF2 nor any other game.

Alright, thanks everyone. I guess I'll be making a phone call later today.

Windows 8? Sorry no. I don't like crap. I will stay with my good 'ol Vista

I've actually heard a lot of my friends having problems with 8 in other areas.

However, this is the first I am actually hearing about it affecting gaming, which makes me weary about actually buying it for my laptop....

I don't even.
However, in all seriousness, I got Windows 8 because it was cheap and I figured no harm could come out of updating. I basically just disabled all of the "Modern UI" features that you can disable, and instead of pinning stuff to the Start Screen, I just hit the windows key and search for programs. It's faster than Seven, but uglier. I've actually been getting better gaming performance out of it.

Could be Win8 just has stock drivers for your ethernet/wireless card. Maybe try getting the real drivers from the manufacturer?

Im a big update kinda guy and i download windows 8 when it was first available and found it having a lot of problems with programs. I found it also had some pointless stuff. I would recommend uninstalling it. I did and i dont regret it.

Yeah. Didn't even think about that, but that happened to me on my old gaming rig when I upgraded from XP to 7. Had to go get the Atheros drivers for my chipset from ASUS's website.

"When it was first available" sounds like you were using the beta or the RC.. Windows 8 has caused no problems for me. I'm running on a 64-bit Intel system on an ASUS laptop.

Retro ftw. I still hardly think of getting Win8

Why would you want to run a phone app operating system on your computer anyways? newbs!!

Why did you upgrade in the first place...its bound to have 6 bazuillion bugs and prioblems.

You two do realize it's Windows 7 underneath it all? It's as stable as Windows 7 is. Also, $15.00 vs $40/$70 is a heck of a deal. AND, I work at a computer shop, and it's good to be familiar with the new stuff.

Currently, I've had no issues. No crashes and everything seems to work. My TF2 related problems were internet related.

I did not say its not stable, I just don't like the layout, ill keep Win 7 on my gamer but for 39.99 for Windows 8 Pro ill try it on my laptop. And still give my sister the free copy of Win 8 I have. But ill wait tell she comes over for Christmas with the PC so I can set it up.

How is file sharing and joining Multiple Os domains/home groups same as Win 7 or better?

I've been using Win 8 for awhile now and I agree, it's pretty much a new version of Windows 7 with a few things added in. I've had no problems with it so far. Almost all games run fines just like they did in Windows 8.
