Hey everyone,

I have been having some issues over the past 5-6 months with my display drivers. Whenever I have been playing a game for a while, my game will automatically minimize and state that my "Display driver has crashed but has been successfully recovered". When it does this, and I resume my game, the screen is black so I have to exit the game and re-open it.

A friend of mine recommended using EVGA Precision to help change my fan speeds and it's worked for a while now but for the last week, the error has been coming back.

I am not sure if it's my video card, but my whole system is 3 years and 4 months old.

Yes, the latest graphic drivers have been installed.

It could be the GTS 250 showing it's age. A thing to try would be going to an older driver or a recent beta driver and see if that affects it.

But since you tried Precision, it is probably heat affecting it as well. So try blowing out some dust and possibly re-seat the card (take out and put back).

Also depending on the game the GTS 250 might not enough to actually run the game.

Have you cleaned it? is the card dusty... and is that why changing the fan speed helped?

I would agree with this one, may i also recommend cranking up the voltage JUST a few points. I see this issue from time to time at work and it does help at times.

Have you ever OC'd your GTS 250? Recently I was messing around with my 460, seeing if I reach a core clock of 1Ghz...and everything over 920 crashes my drivers it seems. No matter what I do, its unstable. Point is, if you have OC'd recently, its probably unstable, so you should try downclocking it and see if you get the same results.

This also highly depends on what game you are playing. Do the drivers ever just crash randomly when games are not running?

What games do you see this happening in?

Drivers are up to date. Card crashes whilst in game. Then reopens and the game is black/crashed. Yes it is due to age and heat. You heatsinks inside the card case are most likely clogged with dust, or fan is clogged. Regardless, juust open ur case and have a look or use precision X to monitor your temperatures. If they go above 80/90C then game crashes, then its due to heat. That may be the easiest way to troubleshoot.

If it is due to heat then you may have to open the card (if not under warranty) and clean it yourself with an aircompressor can or whatevs easiest.

Now if it is not the heat then it is ur vid card in general. Just too old, taken to much of a beating, and on its last leggers. Lol
