Only whatever comes with Win 8 (security essentials + windows firewall)

Download and install spybot S&D, immunize your computer, then scan for spyware and remove anything that is found.

You should also get some antivirus software to scan your computer. I would recommend ESET NOD32 Antivirus (Version 5). The trial version is free for 30 days. Conduct a full computer scan and post your results on whether anything was found.

Kaspersky and Bitdefender rate very high if you need alternatives, but I have no experience with either so I cannot recommend them.

Bitdefender I've heard spotty rumors contains a hidden spyware/malware, but not sure if it's true.

@Sushi:

Another possibility you could try is a fresh re-install of the game (No mods, saves, etc etc. W/e User-added content) and see if it still does it.

I doubt that would work. It thinks the launcher is a virus, not the client.

First I'd like to say I'm glad you were able to resolve the issue at hand. Second, I agree that having malware/antivirus protection is a requirement but I would just stick with Microsoft Security Essentials. That antivirus software has proven to be very efficient and has become my own personal trusted protection for all of my clients machines along with other computer shops that I do business with and my own personal computers. Just to be clear, MSE is NOT the only choice that is efficient but it is my personal preference and wanted to assure you that it is not a bad choice should you continue to use it.
