Jail Brainstorming

Personally, I would like to see people get more creative with warden. Theme wardens are the best and they not only get a laugh but when done well, they make the boring stuff go by faster. Aside from changing rules and adding plugins, I think getting more creative as a warden would help the experience in the jail server by 100%.

Spitfire'd was one of the best theme wardens I have ever had the pleasure of gaming with in the jail server. If more people took some cue's from his style of wardening there would be too much laughter for rebellion.

There are two comments I'd make:

1. What's the reason why we don't have an !lr plugin on our jail server? Personally I'm a fan of the creativity and freedom involved with custom LRs, but is there a reason why our server opts not to have it? Perhaps giving T's a choice between whether they want to use the plugin OR making up their own game could improve the variability of LRs. Could also spice up the more redundant ones, like s4s.

2. Some of the most popular jail servers have costumes for their players (correctional officers, the warden, and prisoners all have different character models); for example, the prisoners would all be in orange jumpsuits. It adds authenticity to jail, and makes it more fun and different. Could be worth looking into for our jail server.

Those are just a few ways that could improve the popularity of the server by improving the "jail experience".

For improvements/suggestions for the games played during jail, I'd also refer you to NMSniper's thread where we brainstormed ideas for the CS:GO jail server (but most of the games are applicable to CS:S as well), or to either this thread where we had some good ideas brought up, or this most recent thread also dedicated to that topic.

We have custom skins, get dedicated supporter and have at it with a cowboy hat and aviators.

Also, yes we need creative wardens. And to harness that, we also need to lessen how strict we make the rules for wardens. They need some leeway too to be able to create new things.

I personally wouldn't mind Ts wearing an orange jumpsuit as I don't have custom skins for those, but my CT team wears black S.W.A.T gear and I like it that way. If there was a way to allow client side skins to supercede those of the server, I wouldn't mind it as much, but I'm not sure if that's possible.

Aww shucks Judge I am blushing, thank you for your kind words.

I feel like this is off topic from what they are asking for, but let me explain a little of the reasoning behind how I warden in hopes that the server may benefit from it.

In my mind if your goal as a CT was to kill all the T's and win...well you shouldn't be a CT. You're missing the point of what makes jail a great game and a great server.

I never played to win. I played to interact with the other players, and they have more fun when you're not running them around like nazi's. The voice impressions, well they just happened lol. I didn't lie down and let people kill me either, they had to work for it. Any death of mine was well earned.

If you focus on winning the round you'll be ok as a warden, but if you focus on having fun with everyone in the server you'll increase the quality of the server. That's the bottom line in my book.

There's not much you can do "server side" to fix or help that. Honestly after I jump in and play a bit (when I have time) I don't expect to have any changes or suggestions. It's a game mode completely dependent on the players. In terms of being warden some are good at it, some are great at it, and to be honest many leave a lot to be desired, and it has everything to do with what your goals are when you ask to be Warden.

Change why you play, change the game.
(that's the other reason trivia needs to stay out, it had great creative potential but no one ever used it that way, they just saw it as a quick game to get a quick kill on T's. Same with Simon Says, same with the game where you jump until a certain time and then try to jump without getting shot, same with any map where the CT's are on a "guard rail" 20 feet from the T's at all times. I'm not suggesting these other games get restricted or removed, I'm just calling players to be more creative and interactive)

Also, unofficial T wardens. Bring back the meta game. Still to this day the most fun I've ever had in jail server.

Large detailed post

Everything you said I 100% agreed with. People should focus on the fun of the game and not their K/D or wins and losses. I honestly think if you get too technical with Jail, it becomes boring and stale. So if you actually TRY to have fun in the server, you will.

Wait...

...so jail isn't about K/D and wins/losses?

MY LIFE IS A LIE!!

Heh, but in all seriousness, these thoughts of yours and Spitfire'd are good, and have been said before on these forums. In my experience though, it's a fine line between having fun and interacting with the t's, and having the round move so slowly that people who are dead start to d/c. If every round takes 11 minutes because the games are more fun-oriented, and don't kill people, the "fun factor" also decreases. It's a fine line.

That's in my experience anyways. Some of the games I play were meant to be more fun-oriented than kill-the-terrorists oriented. Naturally, this led to extended rounds, and even though the games were fun, the rounds were drawn out far too long.

This might be obvious, but I thought I'd mention it anyways, since it wasn't obvious to me when I started exploring some other "creative" options for wardening.

Ideally, as Spitfire'd mentioned, wardens will be creative and entertaining without making the rounds too easy (i.e. too easy to rebel and kill the CTs) or too long. It can be quite challenging to find that balance, especially since the server player dynamics change when new players connect.

I didn't drag the rounds out...all I did was find ways to ---

HURRRRR!!!!! (Spitfire'd died)

more shiny buttons to press, less of the same person getting warden. :chair: take that for changing my disco song!!!

We should get a 24/7 Cyanide as warden! He was hilarious as warden. But really Judge is right. More original Wardens and the old "High spray/low spray" thing is really boring and dumb. If you are going to do cell block game please make it original or funny.

LIKE DUCK, DUCK GOOSE!!!!!!

I actually had some jumpsuit skins that got removed thanks to that bugged Deagle I had >_>

I could dig them up if anyone really wants them. Actually, as Red said, I had the black-clad CTs as well. Definitely adds to the immersion of jail, however little there is sometimes :P
