OPS NIGHT

PLANETSIDE-2-GENERAL-still-waiting.png

Terran Republic combat operations are slated to begin at the following time and date:

Date: Friday, December 14th, 2012
Time: 8:00 PM Eastern
Location: Esamir Warpgate (subject to change)
Communications: Ventrilo
Notes: We will begin promptly at 8:00 PM Eastern.
Please get in Vent at least 15 minutes before we begin so we can immediately roll-out.

COMBAT OPERATIONS

The goal of Ops Night (working title) is to enter a continent and change the tide of war in our favor. We will accomplish this by using unconventional warfare, blitzkrieg tactics, and a strategy that favors fast movements and precision strikes on strategically valuable locations. Unfortunately for some, this means performing tasks that put you in extremely perilous situations. If you enjoy squad-based tactics, teamwork, and love killing enemies of the Republic you are sure to enjoy the tactical and demanding gameplay of Ops Night.

During this event, eGO members and guests are expected to work as one cohesive unit. To accomplish this task we require all participants to follow orders, refrain from bickering, and restrain from openly questioning or disregarding orders. While the goal of Ops Night is to cause as much destruction and mayhem as a team, we cannot accomplish this with members flaunting their "expertise" or disregarding commands. For the most part, participants should only obey the commands of their fireteam leaders, squad leaders, and the Operational Commander.

OUTFIT SETUP

We will attempt to run two primary squads; Airborne and Mechanized. The Airborne squad will be composed of Heavy Assault Troops and Combat Medics. They will drop from Galaxies in strategically valuable locations and be tasked with capturing and then securing various territories. Mechanized forces will be composed primarily of Sunderer(s), tanks, Engineers, and Heavy Assault troops. They will serve as a support auxiliary to Airborne operations or tasked with separate missions. Please note that the Airborne and Mechanized squads are likely to change as we will always prioritize infantry tactics.

If you want to reserve a space within a specific squad type please specify below We will do our best to put you in such positions. Reserved slots will be honored until 8:00 PM Eastern, after which they will be disregarded and given "first come, first serve" placement.

IN-GAME LEADERSHIP

All major commands are likely to come from the operational Commander. The Commander will almost always be a member of Op:X leadership, a predesignated host, or an EC. During the event we expect every participant to obey the Commander's orders to the best of their ability.

Most orders will be relayed to squad leaders and then further relayed to the rest of the team. Squad leaders are expected to be mature, dependable members with a basic knowledge of Planetside 2 and the information in this thread. They must also be able to control their squad, effectively communicate, relay communications, and ensure their squad can carryout orders given to them by the Commander.

There are 2 openings for squad leaders, we will be selecting new squad leaders every week. Squad leader positions are open to anyone in the outfit as long as they meet the following criteria.

[*]A working microphone (we must be able to understand you)

[*]Ability to use both Ventrilo and TeamSpeak 3

[*]Ability to lead 4-10 people unassisted

This thread is open for any type of response and is NOT just for signups. However, if you are interested in becoming a SL for this week please reply to this thread with a separate post including the following:

1. Ability to attend this event and serve as a squad leader. (Y/N)
2. Met the previous criteria. (Y/N)
3. Preference of running the Airborne or Mechanized squads. (Air/Mech)

IMPORTANT NOTES

During Ops Night you may not earn as much experience as you wish but you will learn how to work as a team to accomplish tasks in a tactical and effective manner. If this type of gameplay does not suit you remember that this is a voluntary event and your participation is not required (although it is greatly valued).

Any type of behavior or outbursts will be dealt with immediately with at least a dismissal from the event. We always encourage constructive criticism and we have an open lien of communication. However, there are times and places to express your knowledge of the game, criticize actions, or take command-- during the event is neither the time nor the place.

I volunteer Megatron. I promised him I would. Plus, I've seen him lead squads in PS2 so I think he'd be a good fit for the role.

Do we respond for SL here?

1. Ability to attend this event and serve as a squad leader. Y
2. Met the previous criteria. Y
3. Preference of running the Airborne or Mechanized squads. Mech

Yup, you respond here. Thanks T-Rock (your new nickname).

I'll try to make it. I prefer being Airborne since I'm good with the Heavy and Medic classes.

I'm no good at being a Squad leader so I deleted that app. :P

I know there are plenty of ppl out there that can run a squad effectively. Lets see you step up

Also keep in mind being a good squad member not leader is just as important. If you see something call it out with precise directions and names. Also try to keep everything as clear and concise as possible, with 11ish other ppl all trying to relay information at the same time it can get quite hectic for the SL.

As per usual I hope to see a lot of you there. And as stated show up a bit early that way we can organize squads, team loadouts and so on that way we can maximize our playing time.

I had a lot of fun tonight, and I like where we can go as an organized and cohesive unit. Can't wait till the next ops night!

Didn't just conquer a continent. We held all three of them. First time in a long time I've seen that happen.

Well yea, but we as a unit finished off only 1 continent. Regardless still impressive as we had to hold both NC and VS to their warp gates simultaneously

It was A LOT of fun. Thank you everyone for coming and making this event so massive and organized. Good job to all of you.

Overall it was fun but there was some issues that need to be considered.

1 Distances.

We need to keep this in mind several times we ordered tanks into terrain or situations that would take them4-5 min longer then air to get to and by time they got there was no enemy to fight or even a point to cap anymore ( due to our own air finishing it.)

2 down time

Several times we tried to keep a formulated order but it got to the point it was detrimental. We had instances we were asked to wait 5+ min for tanks to respawn or get back to squad. IF we have down tanks we need infantry to get in a sunderer and keep going or to spawn other type of tank that's not down. Asking us to wait like that ends up just making many bored when they realize it.

3 no aa for mech.
A few instances we got completely obliterated by 1 or 2 libs because we didn't have air cover. This has happened both events. We need to consider this otherwise it leads to having to regroup which is very time extensive. It also leads to the sundee getting owned badly because no counter.

4 Advoiding fights
Several times it felt like we just tried to advoid fights we could have won by having both squads work as 1 cohesive unit.

As i said at start Overall it was a great event. If we get these few things resolved it will be even better especially for the tank side.

You need to keep in mind that for events we assume everyone has the base vehicles and weapons with 0 upgrades. It is unfair for leadership to "make" you have certain upgrades on your vehicles just so its a bit more useful in an event.

The idea of the event is to form and coordinate a platoon, in a tactical way. Which doesn't necessarily mean fighting everything in our path or choosing the path with the most resistance. It's approached as real life situation might be in which, the PL and SL are trying to cap/defend the most important objectives to allow the pubs and other groups on the ground to fill in the holes. ie we kept taking/defending points around the tech plant, to cut it off from the VS and making its capture that much more easy. It came to our attention at that point, that we didn't have any TR pubs in the area. Thus we switched to a new continent.

Also keep in mind were all new to this, so many things are still subject to change, leadership has yet to "finalize" the event as a whole. such as have the airborne and mech, its hard to keep both fully operations due to the respawn timers on vehicles. And as matt mentioned libs taking you out quickly which happens quite a bit.

This isn't to to deter any possible suggestions as all are always welcomed, its just to help clarify how the event is trying to be approached. The idea is to make it as fun as possible for everyone while still maintaining a tactical approach.

Finally, I'd like to see some more ppl step up as SL, I have played with most of you, and most of you have much more experience in the game which is extremely invaluable in running a squad. Just keep in mind you need Team Speak3 as well as vent in order to be a SL, as TS3 is used for command communications and vent is to relay that information to your squad.
